I love Dark Legacy comics.
And they call me insane? I am the most sane person around!

Hope you get the course/university you want Grosh!

I did lad, Computer Science up in UCC!

I study game design, is that close enought?

Yeah sure, I think anyway in my course in second year you decide what area you want to specialise in (software, games design, servers)
Study more traditional culture on the side if you want to make good games. Just a tip.
Also, on a 100% personal note. For me it feels like game design would be the most boring possible on a Computer Science degree. Go study automation engineering!

You take that back!

What, the part where you need to understand the arts that aren't gaming good to create a compelling gaming narative? (As well as understand how mechanics tell your story).

Well, there exists so much more fun and interesting stuff to do in the computer realm! Game design I can see as being a very fulfilling hobby if you want a creative outlet. But if you spend that much time learning scripting personally it doesn't appeal.
I'd likely find creating programs that can learn to play complicated games more fun as "work" than making games as work. (At least if I were to spend 3-5 years studying computer programming).

So much -more- to game design than just the scripting (that is very important) that I feel if you go for a computer science degree. Go for the -science-.

//Edit:
And a link to the "true" periodic table. Or rather. The nuclide table:

Well, the game design course I'm taking is very low in programming skills, it's mostly deisgn. Things like narrative, image studies, sounds, layout, work models, game study etc. etc.

Indeed, you're studying game design. Not computer science. =P
No issue with that at all.

Difference between doing a mechanical engineer degree and becoming a mechanic. Both good, needed, important. Very different.

Gashuk

Reminds me of this from TBBT;

Spoiler: show
Leonard: Oh-oh.

Raj: What’s the matter?

Leonard: Something’s wrong, I’m not getting any gas. Anybody know anything about internal combustion engines?

Sheldon: Of course.

Raj: Very basic.

Howard: 19th-century technology.

Leonard: Does anybody know how to fix an internal combustion engine?

Sheldon: No.

Howard: No, not a clue.
