Reminds me of the Vampire games I miss....one of our party either failed at any battle roll or he rolf stomped the enemy. I mean he was the kind who'd not crack a wall with a punch, he'd crash the whole house. Thats how overboard those rolls always went.

Worst bad luck I've had in a WhiteWolf game is in Hunter. Where I missed the charging Werewolf and hit a group member instead. With a silver slug from a 12 gauge shotgun. And then did massive damage. Thankfully body-armor saved some of the day or he would have instantly died from having his shoulder blown off.

my worst luck in tabletop RPG was before that single D&D session.

I rolled a 4 as a attribute, I put in in strength, as a cleric, because why not?

Luckily, the GM allowed me to change my Mace for a Whip, because he noticed I was rolling with -3 on all my mace attacks.

Shouldn't Clerics generally have Dex as dump-stat in most editions of DnD?

I think so but some Priest might play with Dex instead, using dex weapon (like a whip) and ranged weapons (I had a crossbow).

This ofc does mean I was shit in melee combat thus it would be needed to have someone who tanks. With a whip however it means I could make a dex-melee attack from behind the tank.

I was a low strength, high wisdom/dex, medium constitution/charisma/Intelligence priest. If we contiuned playing, at level 4 I think I would become proficient in dex weapon, thus making me much better at using that whip. With a +3 with dex attack it was pretty ok with it without proficiency.

My brush with D&D is one short game and Neverwinter Nights games.

Haven't played that much D&D. Played one (short) adventure in 3.5 and then some 4th edition. Generally not much of a fan of it.

The problem I have with the system is "levels". That such for any organic storytelling and world building since they are just so unrealistic in how they work.
