Skirmishes in the Barrens

Elyndis

Hello hello, this is the player behind Elyndis Keenheart, Commander of the Winterblades!

Here is a little event that hopefully will occur reasonably soon. I have spoken a tad with Kuzgo... Kuzgogo... Kuzzie about it, and I hope you would all be interested. If everything works out fine and dandy, I might have something to follow up with too.

Rough sketch:
Skirmishes in the Barrens; a cat-and-mouse cross-faction RP event with heavy PvP.

Participants:
Us Winterblades, led by Manathon, and an orc and/or a tauren guild. The compsition of our team will not be revealed (I want it to be a suprise). The orcs are free to bring whatever classes they please. Be aware that we do not have very high numbers however, and that we will not attack when the odds are unfavorable.

Background story:
During our earlier scoutings into this area we discovered some of the primary supply lines of the orcs. In an effort to draw attention away from Ashenvale and weaken their northern positions by denying the orcs new food and equipment, we will send a small strikeforce to disrupt these supply lines.

We surmised that the supply lines were as following:

By land (caravan?) from Durotar -> Along the road to X-roads.
By sea from Ratchet -> X-roads. (Perhaps mainly larger goods from the eastern kingdoms, such as forsaken/belf technology or heavy crap like ore, or other things).
By land north from X-roads -> Ashenvale.

So these are the places we will watch and attack. But any targets of opportunity will also be put down. Our intentions are to put the horde warriors to unease and eventually into a defensive position.

My idea of how the event will work:
We agree beforehand on a few active supply lines where caravens will be moving (perhaps some positions of interests as well). We agree on a time when us elves will try to attack it (and perhaps also the points of interest to give us options). When/if we manage to destroy one or several caravan (along with any eventual escorts) the orcs will begin to chase us.

They will try to locate us by any means they have avaliable (they will have to decide whether to use flying mounts or not, and to what extent). And we will try to avoid them while continuing to cause damage.

Now, some clear rules for this?

(Use whatever gear you feel like)

We elves will:

Not corpsecamp. Don't take advantage of it though. If you respawn on top of us we might attack simply out of reflex or the like.

Use stealth with good judgement. This means that we will only stealth when we expect enemies, we will not instant-vanish right in the middle of combat. We will, however, ambush using it. Seeing as it will be pitch-black night (not so well portrayed by the lighting in-game) and things such as high grass and bushes are also present, ensuring plenty of obscurity for stealth.

We won't fight fair, at all. We will CC you, we will try to outnumber you and etc. In fact, we will try to spit on every notion of orcish honor there is. So keep that in mind (I mean, we are ELVES after all).

Lastly we will use little or no flying mounts (this includes druids fight form, ofc). Other than a quick scout by a lone rider it is very unlikely we will use any flight. The main group itself will always be "grounded", so to speak. The IC explenation would be that flying is too easily spotted, the mounts too cumbersome for this mission and the flight form too exhausting.

We will also try to follow a few goals:
No casualties. If we recieve too heavy casualties we will withdraw (and the orcs win the engangement, unless we did serious damage before pulling back). I consider casualties to work like this; a death in a lost battle (i.e we were wiped or forced to run) would be one casualty (the one who died was a "nameless fellow warrior", not you). A death in a won battle is either a casualty or a severe wound. Near-death could be a severe or "normal" wound.

Our main objective is to destroy caravans. It is completely up to the orcs to decide how many the could lose, but it would always be nice to know that a loss would have some impact.

When, and how long:
I leave "When" for the participants to decide (I won't be there *sadface*). A weekend would be favorable, and sooner rather than later.

My original though for this was a continuing event lasting two or more evenings. But that is all depending on how interested people are. If everyone feels satisfied by the first night and another run would be redundant, then stop there by all means. If you want to extend it by another night, or even repeat it later, by all means!

I will not be avaliable for at least one week, sadly. But you can discuss any details with Manathon, who will be leading our side in this event. Sorayah and Shaelyssa might also be avaliable, although it is not certain whether they will join the event.

So, whatcha think?

Looks largely reasonable to me. We'll be occupied the upcoming weekend, though perhaps the week thereafter will be suitable if it would suit you and your stinky kin as well. ;)

As for having it a multi-day event, I think it would be best to see how many people enjoyed it and how well it went. The last event in Ashenvale jumps to mind, which was an event held over an entire weekend, and some of that didn't go too well because of a few certain matters. If the first day proves to be enjoyable, we'll surely be able to pull out another day for it!

I'll see about aiming for two weeks from now then. We would likely have up to ten people on our side, it would be good to know how many of you are game. Also, if any of you think something would be cewl to add and/or change, do let out a grunt!

sounds like an ample time and a superb event idea.

So, as far as I understand it's a go-go tomorrow (friday)! I hope you people a pshyced.

20:00 is the time we will start moving in. I suggested to Kogugore that the carvans be stationary (seeing as it takes only a few minutes to move from Ratchet to X-roads). This could likely be made as a night camp, which would give you something to do while waiting for us (we'll try to give you some hint the moment before we attack, I know how much it sucks getting dragged into combat mid-sentence). Sitting around a campfire guarding a caravan cart while pondering the increased sightings of elf scouts would make for a fairly nice atmosphere, don't you agree?

As said, we will try to bring down as many of the caravans as possible before you can mount a retaliation. Depending on how it plays out we will improvise from there.

At this moment I see the sense in making the event stretch over one evening. We'll see if the concept works, and if so we might be able to plan something more "epic".

See you in the Barrens!
