New Great Spirits Uncovered

It has been mere months since the tribe has reformed into the mighty Red Blade clan and has found guardians to be watching over them once again. What they did not know, however, was that there are more patrons watching over the clan, some even new to the pantheon of Akashok himself. In recent discoveries, the Thur’ruk of the clan have been digging deep into the lore of the clan and have uncovered a few more of those guardians of the Red Blade. Due to their discovery, they have started to work their ways into the dreams of the orcs, to let themselves be known to the clan and that they are watching over them.

A great discovery has shaken the very foundations of the clan's spiritual beliefs! Enlighten yourself on the front page!

Akal
Guided by the element of air, Akal, named after Akala for her connection to fertility, ushers in vast amounts of positive energy. The coming of Akal often marked the beginning of the spring festivals for the orcish clans as they would celebrate the coming of fertility and growth and venture to new hunting grounds. Through the breezes and tides, Akal carries with it a season of spiritual growth as well as a time in which to celebrate life and the new season.

Mor'vaul
Mor'vaul, or 'Midyear', marks the beginning of Summer and the hunting season that follows in its wake. With the first half of the year passed, Mor'vaul offers a time to reflect on what has been and what is yet to come in this year. Goals that have not yet been met should be re-evaluated, so that any dormant ambitions may be reawakened once more. In addition to striving for vitality and fertility for the hunts that are to come, steps should be made to strive for that which was previously too high an accomplishment.

From the Annals: Blood of the Varog'Gor

With Okiba's story competition in full swing, this month is the perfect opportunity to be reminded of the vast amount of lore and background stories this guild has collected over the years of its long existence. In between the monthly newsletters and Member Spotlights, we'll be regularly taking a look back into the history of the Red Blade's stories and see what its creative members, both former and present, have written in our new format, "From the Annals". By taking these stories out of the depths of our website, they'll get some well-earned, renewed exposure for members who may not have been around at the time to see the conception of the story at the time.

To kick this series off, I've selected one of three stories regarding the clan's most influential ranks: The Rrosh-tul, Varog'Gor and Thur'ruk. Back when these ranks were first created, Morgeth helped give these ranks a bit of spice by providing a background story for each one of them. These stories hearkened back to the time of Clan Redblade back on Draenor and illustrated the conflict they had with another fictional clan, the Bloodmaw clan. All three stories can be read in the Ranks: A history of blades thread, but below is the story she wrote about the Varog'Gor. A story that perfectly captures the feeling of the Varog'Gor, the responsibilities they have and the culture that exists around them. I was very happy with the stories at the time, and feel they're a perfect representation even now, eight years later!

Gorosh

Named in honor of the element of fire, Gorosh, Fire's Heart, marks the warmest time of year when the sun reaches its zenith. In addition to Gorosh being the month in which the element of fire is at its strongest, it is also the month in which animal spirits begin to appear more freely and may become more common to encounter. Additionally, this period of the year is an ideal time to set out into the wide world, nurturing adventure, wildness and freedom.

Kil'gund, the Month of Stars, is the month when the skies of the orcs' Old World would be the clearest of the entire year. This made it an ideal time for seers and shamans to read the stars and foretell what events will unfold in the coming years. Furthermore, it is a time when traditionally many competitions would be held, a chance to gain pride and honor in times of peace.

From the Annals: Time Capsule

With everyone fully focused on the release Battle for Azeroth as we speak, the guild has taken its customary two week hiatus at the beginning of the new expansion to allow its members to freely explore the new content at their own pace. This has become the norm in the guild since the release of Wrath of the Lich King, making it a bit of a guild tradition by now.

To justify the two week IC silence however, the guild has often had to come up with some manner of excuse to explain why things are silent over the course of two weeks. Since new expansions often take place on new islands or continents, it's easy enough to justify the silence with a convenient shipwreck (and as such, the clan has become a little notorious for its lousy skills in commandeering ships). An exception to this was Warlords of Draenor however, when the guild was preparing itself for a charge through the Dark Portal into the Iron Horde's world that was suspected to be a suicide mission they would never come back from. To leave a little something behind for the inhabitants of Azeroth that the orcs were laying their lives on the line for, Sadok Sharptongue decided to come up with the idea of a time capsule during the tribe's stay in Stranglethorn Vale. Every orc would deposit a little personal something into a secured lockbox that would withstand the test of time, to then be deposited into the soil of the jungle for later generations to one day find. The result was a very touching and emotional event, where we got to see a lot of personal touches and references towards other orcs and past members!

Dha'karth

Dha'karth, Earth's Gift, is a month of offering and receiving. With winter approaching, clans that rely on the gifts of the earth such as fruits and seeds take this chance to give thanks to the element of earth to secure its blessing and to harvest as many supplies for the winter months to come. It is also the month of the autumnal equinox, traditionally the date of the second Kosh'harg festival of the year.

Aka'Vrull

Aka'Vrull, War's Blessing or Blessing of Vrull, marks the end of the agricultural season for those few clans who actively practice the art of culturating land. More importantly to most other clans however, it also marks the traditional end of military campaigns as the weather grows too unfavourable to maintain active military efforts. As a result, tribute is paid to any spirits or patrons of war for the victories won that year. This is often done by sacrificing animals or trophies of the defeated enemies. Or, aeons ago, sacrificing captives of the enemies themselves...

From the Annals: A (Crude) Orcish Drinking Song

Kosh'harg is nearly upon us again, which is a great time for tall tales and songs! One thing that has always struck me, however, is how few in-universe songs we actually have. Both from Blizzard as well as player-made, particularly orcish songs are quite scarce. Luckily, we did have the creative spirit or two join us every now and then, and Mazguul was certainly one of the most creatives ones you would find out there! During her time as Thur'ruk in the distant past, she wrote a fair few songs that may or may not have been inspired by other game songs. Granted, the following may be a little bit on the lewd side for some, but it's definitely her magnum opus among the ones she shared with us. I present to you, the Quillboar Song!

Ankathar

Ankathar, the Ancestor's Tide, is the first month of the dark months of winter. As an opposite to the time of light and fertility in the first half of the year, death and darkness play a key role in Ankathar. The ancestors are remembered and honoured, and preparations for the coming winter are made.

Nath'lok

Nath'lok, the Long Night in the traditional orcish tongue, marks the end of the year and the centre of the winter season. A great emphasis lies upon the reflection of the past year and the preparation for the next, as orcs are ritually cleansed of their deeds from the previous months and make offerings to the spirits for a prosperous year to come. Among some clans, it was once the month when some of the most ancient (and sometimes most taboo) rites and traditions would be practiced, such as the worship of the Pale Lady in the sky.

Kor'batar

Water's Tide, or Kor'batar, marks the beginning of a new year. Traditionally known as the time of shifting tides of Draenor's seas, it is also a time of new beginnings, endings and transitions. Guided by the element of Water, Kor'batar is known for particularly strong currents and an ideal time to commune with the elements of water. It also offers a fresh start to those orcs who seek one, often accompanied by sober eating habits and meditation.

Happy new year, everyone! See what awaits the clan in 2019 here!

Vosha'gur

Honored brothers and sisters,

Some say we are exiles from our own home. That we are fools to abandon Orgrimmar to its present fate. That we are traitors to the Horde. However, some also say that discretion is the better part of valour. That it is better to live to fight another day. And that you should not believe everything that people say.

You choose what you wish to believe. But there is no reversing the sun or casting the die anew. The way things are now, is the hand we are dealt. I choose to believe that betrayal to one's moral codes and beliefs is far worse a crime than to betray a Warchief absent morals or dignity. Our clan's Code is ever clear on such matters; there is no misinterpreting what it says of chiefs who are found unworthy and allies who are found undeserving.

And so we have set upon the road for the time being. Come what may, we will stand with the Whiteclaw Communion as we bide our time for a better future. That future begins with our pilgrimage to Mount Hyjal for the revered Wolf God Lo'gosh. We may not end up sharing the road with the rest of the Whiteclaws forever. But for now, our paths are intertwined. Ensure to look after our allies as you would your fellow brother and sister, for unity is more important than ever before in times such as these.

For the Blood of Redblade,
Kozgugore Feraleye
