Hello everybody!
As some of you might know, I have moved to warhammer which has just opened its headstart program tonight. The game launches on the 18th.
Me and some friends have rolled in a Core RP server , Burlok. If anyone wants to drop by try messaging me either me (Kad) or Madana. I will be delighted to fight side by side with you again ;)
good to hear from you Kad! :D
Hi ya Kad.
I bet your a ahhhhh Ork. ::) ::)
Kad you bastard! Will you tank in WAR? :)
Does WAR also require hour upon hour of grind to be able to enjoy the game?

Im only at level 6 at the momment, but it seems that - although it does require time - it wont require vast continuous time spans. it is viable to play for 30 minutes or 1 hour and enjoy the game and also feel like you have accomplished something
Pfft, we are rolling on the Alarielle server.
So we wont be seeing you. ::)
Hey Kad, good to hear from you. You probably won't be surprised to learn that I won't be playing WAR (given everything I've said about Warhammer in the past).
I'm still having a huge amount of fun on Age of Conan where I now run a successful Stygian guild and I've already managed to establish my reputation as being the guild's slowest leveller ;D
Heya Akesha *nods* yeah AOC was a huge fun, though to buggy for my taste, what server are you playing at? I still got gametime might come and say hi ::)
I might try rolling on Alerielle as well - Im getting a bit pissed off with all the unflagged stunties and also by the fact that there is noone in the RvR areas >:(

AOC is much less buggy than it used to be and gets better with every patch. Unfortunately numbers playing it have really dropped in the last couple of months and some people are predicting that WAR may cause the population to drop dramatically in the next few weeks.
Feel free to drop by and say Hi. You can find me on Corinthia, name of Kahotep ... and Kad, if AOC does go tits up like some people are predicting, then I may even be temted to give WAR a try (even if it's just to confirm my suspicions that I won't like it ;) )
Heya Kad, you old dog!
If possible, I might join you guys on either server some time in the future. Just have to decide if I'm going to start playing again...
:-D
Bugger!
Just got my BO to rank 18 on Burlock and now I'm guna have to start again on this open server.
Well will see you lot in game, whisper Bulgrim Blacktoof.
Hi Kad glad to see your still around.
And hello Reh hows the Kids and Vargy, hope all is well.
And Oz
"Does WAR also require hour upon hour of grind to be able to enjoy the game?"
No its very casual friendly, you can do a bit of RvR or a few Public Quests which are real fun.
wow... It's Krusher... You know mate, you're a legend :)
You know what occured to me the other day? I've never liked some of the things in Warhammer, but then again I like some of the stuff in Warcraft even less and I spent a very enjoyable few years playing that game.
So, long story short, I decided to give WAR a try and I have to say that it is has been a lot of fun so far, just doing the first few orc quests (it's worth the cost of the game, just to use a catapult to launch yourself into a dwarf fortress ;D)
I think that AOC will still be my main game, I have a great little guild there and the rp is superb, but I'll probably be playing WAR once or twice a week from now on.
Look out for an orc by the name of Azubal on Alarielle and feel free to say hello.
Doh, why is everyone rolling a war urks!?

Well, I play a human in aoc (and in real life too) so WAR is going to be my 'taking a break from Hyborea' game. I did have a quick go playing a White Lion thingy and that looked like fun too, so I'm not 100% decided.
Hi Kad! =D
Heya oldies! :) It's interesting - how many of you are still true orcs and playing greenskins in WAR? :P

*raises both hands*
Hmm, comparing spores to wow orcs with shamanistic culture is too much for me.
I dont want to play humans, but dwarfs seems fine for me.
The Green skins in war are great, granted they are the comic relief, but they always have been and I've always loved the very English humour of Warhammer. And i would say Mythic have done a near perfect job of keeping the greenskins to their true path of violent jokers. Ive been on Burlock with my Black Orc and Squig herder since Head start, and i just cant get enough of these Greenskins, so far i have laughed at one thing or another every day, it just takes the sting out of the serious world of MMO's ;).
But for the moment i'm sticking to my core RP server until they fix the ability to go back to the first tiers, i just don't like how the open servers limit what you can and cant do, until then hope you all have fun in what ever game you are playing.
Krusher.

I have about the same feelings and I really like Burlok community, so I think we (me and Yorla) will keep playing there.
My black orc name there is Kirdyk (and it seems I just don't get enough of orc till now, so other characters are stuck in starting areas yet), feel free to poke me. ;)
I have decided myself to stick to Burlok - I have already set up the guild Ive been planning for 2 odd years (the Big Bad Boyz) and truth is that RvR is much more focused in Core servers than in open servers.
Anyhow my name is -naturally- Kad, and I am the leader of the Big Bad Boyz. Anyone who is interested in joining this Orc & Goblin only guild, feel free to pm either me or any of the members of the guild.
Krusher, Ghook and Yorla, Ill look you up in the game ;)
If you've no objects to a casual player who spends two thirds of their time playing a different game, then I may head over to Burlok and look you up Kad.
Personally I'm enjoing to play powerfull, humble and very valueble chaos-healer - zealot (name - Eridis) with greenskin pet as a meat shield. ;) It's technecaly very close to WOW priest with AOE, so not need much of new expirience. Also I have two funny goblins, but not sure if I will play them much.
So are you all still enjoying WAR?

Akesha, I dont think you should ask at all :)
Question
Is it Dark Elf against High Elf and Dwarf against Ork?
Or is it like WOW Horde against Alliance all mixing in together, (Good Vs Bad)
There is no "good" at all! ;) And yes, it's like two factions Destruction vs Order, but three pairings: Greenskins vs Dwarves, Chaos vs Empire and Elves vs Elves at different start locations.
I'll buy this game as soon as I have money, and out of playttime on WoW...and after WOTLK... and lvl 80... or perhaps.. bleh... I'll get it sometime...

I can't say for all, just for myself. :)
When I have time to play, I play WAR. Can't say I "drop into it" completely, no fanatism. But I can safely say I enjoy playing it. ;)

I don't want to turn this thread into an advert for WAR, but to be honest the more I play this game the more impressed I am with it. It's like people who have been playing WoW for years have got togther and made a list of all the things they wish they could do in WoW and put in into a new game. WAR truley is a lot of fun (at low level at least) and is easy for a casual player to log in and just have fun.
They also have put in some extremely cool stuff for guilds, like guild cloaks, banners, guildhalls etc.
The down side is that you often feel very small. Most MMO's cast you as the hero of your own story. WoW does this, aoc does it in spades. In WAR however your new character is just one more faceless grunt in the ongoing war. I assume that this will change as you level, and you will begin to feel more like the hero, but for now it takes a bit of getting used to after being told by everyonther game that the world revolves around you.
Short answer .... yes ;D
I don't think Grunt games are bad, as I'm no born leader, I more like to be the faceless grunt. That's one thing I disslike about most games, you are always the hero.
But, it would be boring with to much faceless grunt aswell. A mix is best no doubt.
For me it seems like there is something (at pvp at least) what Blizz could learn from Mythic. Open RvR (pvp) is fun! Siege is real fun! And it's not going to break your comp and mind with laaaaags. :) Organised army of "faceless grunts" with charismatic leader infront of it can turn this leader to a hero for a hour. And it's fun too! %)
Well, after 3 years of chewing WOW, WOW itself became rather tastless, like a bubblegum. (I feel pity for Illidan who did it for ten thousand years o.O) Maybe I like WAR only because of that. :)
Opinions differ I suppose. But I know I won't be checking out WAR myself. If not because I'm not into the whole Warhammer style, it's because I've had my hands full on WoW for long enough, and should I choose to abandon it (which I doubt will happen since WotLK looks very good), I probably won't be doing any MMO-ing anytime soon.
That said, I think WotLK'll be worth the wait anyway. Call it copy/pasta-ing if you like, but Bliz stated they'd be looking into levelling possibilities through PvP as well, and already got some siege warfare coming up themselves. Now just hope they'd drop the whole emphasis on the arena thing.

I honestly think that the days of the single monolithic MMO that everyone plays are gone. The new batch of MMO's have shown that it is possible to do things in very different ways and offer very different experiences.
There is no one best MMO anymore. What there is now is a variety of games, each of which is unlike the others. WoW is a great game with many fantastic features, but I always disliked the background and grew to hate it after tbc introduced spaceships and rayguns. Age of Conan is a game which still has a lot of potential if only people would give it time to develop and grow. Warhammer is fast paced and fun and easy to get into. Like Koz I am not a big fan of GW's style of fantasy, but I do enjoy the game despite that. None of these is the 'best' MMO. Each have their good and bad points.
My advice to anyone playing WoW right now is that if you still enjoy playing WoW then keep playing it. If on the otherhand, you have had enough of WoW, then there are real alternatives out there that are not simply WoW clones, but are genuinely different games.
Agreed. :)
(Especially about starships!) :D

Maybe so. And it wasn't something I complained about anyway. But I played both AoC and WoW at the same time at some point. As if that wasn't already demanding enough of my spare time as it was, I've even less time to play these days.
Considering all the things I still got left to do in WoW befor WotLK even hits the shelves, I know buying another game wouldn't do me any good both financially (still paying for two WoW accounts) and time wise (2x WoW + 1x WAR? No thanks). And then I haven't even mentioned considering the fact of returning to my AoC account for jigs and giggles. If anything, I should play less instead of more. ;3 Enjoy your time though.

Yes, epic mount at lvl 70 is actually a spaceship. Only for engineers and hackers though :(
Hallo from Drakkiland!
I must say that after playing Warhammer for a little, it does seem like a happy happy game. You can spend hours behind the computer as well if you like. :p Rvr is quite fun especially if you manage to find some people who know how to play and do it as a team (or just roll brightwizard, bribe a healer and go BOOM). There's MUCH to read on lore stuffs (even too much, I stopped reading quests for the first time ever after dinging 9) and the world seems big, at least to a lvl 10ish eyes. I personally like order and the fact that most people are destructionlols because that gets me to scenarios (aka bgs) faster.
Although I'm not really playing the game, just trying it out while passing through Netherlands. :3
DRAKKIOUT!

No. You don't need to give them credit card details to play the 30 free days you get when you buy the game.
Bastards!
See you all soon I guess
Hi there!
I still don't have my own computer (and probably won't until 2-3 months still) but I sneak a bit on Reh's WAR account. Have a small small Gobbo and like it :)
I think it reminds me a lot of WoW but WoW is the definately the Disney version ::) I enjoy it that my character is really rough and damaged. And the burpy, sloshy, stinky sounds , fun! ;D
Well, now all this is starting to look like a disaster to me. :) After playing WAR for a few weeks I've decided that it could be fun to try out the real thing (I mean original table-top version of Warhammer), to play together with my children in real world, blabla, etc... And... Gromdamnit, there are oodles of them figures! Frigging startset contains 60 figures of only "regular" goblin infantry! It's fun to paint, to play... But it's second day in a row I have no time to play WAR because of it... ;D

Ehm guys....
It seems i`m the only one from OotRB on the order side of the Allarielle server. Since i didnt make any friends yet and feel a bit alone there, perhaps some could roll a dwarf char there?
I`m planing to make a dwarf only guild there.
Something like this:
Just made a web site - http://hyrd.guildlaunch.com/
The Hyrd is a fighting unit of the Dwarfs army. Whenever it’s one clan or a mix of them.
The main idea is to unite all these people who like to play with a Dwarf character, roleplay and sees their guild as a family.
There wouldn’t be segmentation for specific classes, but there would be four main ranks:
- Thane
The leader of the Hyrd
- Longbeards
The officers (their word could be only contested by the Thane)
- Hyrd fighters
The full members of the Hyrd, proven themselves in battles and the life of the Hyrd
- Initiate
New to the Hyrd. Ye need to learn a lot, lads!
• Special ranks:
o Quartermasters – these who look after the supplies of the Hyrd (Here comes everything materials for crafting, gold for helping Hyrd members and maintaining the guild treasury)
o Recruiter – Dwarf who is responsible for recruiting (performing recruiting parties to the low lvl areas)
o Grudge keeper – the one who keeps the records of all the grudges
Futures:
• Book of Grudges.
Grudge could be against a person, guild or fellow Dwarf. Each Grudge would be investigated and appropriate decision (which will satisfy the Dwarf) would be made.
• You could find the place which is the most appropriate for your character here.
You can spend more time in the open battle, craft great armor and weapons, buy and sell thing on the auction, as long as you are a Dwarf and follow the rules of the Hyrd.
• Different activities RvR and RP.
This is a game of war. All of us fight, but there should be time for a small chit-chat with your brothers, before the next wave of destruction will clash in to our shield wall.
Rules:
• The Hyrd is the military unit and you must follow the orders of your superiors - in return you will have respect and help from your elder brothers.
• Fight for the Hyrd. Respect the Hyrd and in the time of need the Hyrd will come to back you up.
• No ooc in /s, you can always send a private message to another person.
Must resist buy WAR! Must fight the instinct! Mus...*runs away and begs mom and dad for money*

Well, what can I say...
WAR has funny quests and different graphics.. With pro:s and con:s. Although I like the GW style, it seemed to lack some glue. I didnt feel like my character was actually walking on the ground, battling the foe and so forth.
Im not sure why, but I was expecting .. more.. or something.

I can easily tolerate bugs and things that need tweeking in new games. It seems that all of the new mmo's that have been released recently have suffered from being compared to WoW, a game that has had years to patch, improve and add new content. I can remember when I first started playing WoW back when it was released and the lag in Ironforge being so bad that I had to used the click to move option to avoid falling in the pit everytime I visited the AH.
Anyway, I'm not going to defend WAR. I tried it and had a lot of fun with it for a week, but after that it started to feel like something was missing. It is an incredibly polished game, but it feels like just that, a game. It does not feel like a world that your character inhabits. It's more like they have created a game that plays like one huge version of Alterac Valley. Nobody speaks, I encountered absolutely zero rp (other than talking to Kad) and at every point you feel like you are being directed towards the bit you are supposed to do next.
So, I'll stick to Age of Conan for now. I play on a small server which has the best rp community I've ever come across. The game started out buggy and incomplete its true, but it keeps getting better with every patch and content update. It's just a shame that Funcom mishandled the launch so badly. It virtually guaranteed that aoc will never get the player base it deserves.
Anyway, I wouldn't rush to get WAR if you are still enjoying WoW. Persaonally, I'd stick around for WotLK instead.
*peers at his copies of WoW, AoC and LOTRO * ???
