I know I’m going to get slated flamed and all that for this but what the hell water of a ducks back. :P
Will you people in charge please, please get a grip of the IC chat?
I’m no prude or am I stupid enough to not realise that it is now an excepted part of everyday life.
(As far as younger people are concerned).
But can you stop the swearing in IC chat.
It has never happened before since day 1 of the Red Blades and I’m sure you older members out there will agree it was a recognised Tribal law written or otherwise.

As posted on: 07 January 2008.

This has been brought up before but just a reminder to the newer members who may not be aware of it.

Swearing will not be tolerated on the open Chat.
That being Guild Chat, Say, Yell or Raid.
Do not show your ignorance by doing it.
You may think that the word you are using is mild but to others it may not be so.
If you cannot talk without swearing then say nothing or do what others do compromise with an alternative word.
What you say in whisper is up to you as an individual as long as it does not offend the recipient of the whisper.
Remember there are younger people on the servers let’s not drag ourselves down.

It ruined OOC chat and it ruined raid / party chat now it is slowly coming into IC chat it just shows that we are lowering our standards to that of all the other groups.
Come up with your own Orcish words.

Please do not let it into the last bastion of a great group of people.
And let us be at least a little bit respectful, after all swearing is just a word used by those who do not have the vocabulary intelligence to use a different word.
Or so they say. ???

Therak

Personal opinion here. Not representative of the officers or anything.

Some swear words used in character I'm fine with. I'm not fine with racial or homophobic slurs, neither do I think all swear words and a large quantity of them are fine.
But throwing in the occasional "f#ck " or other fairly basic swear words is not something I'm bothered by. Where do we even draw the line? Should we say "heck" instead of "hell" (There are clearly such a thing in use since there's Hellfire Peninsula) do we allow "bloody"? that's also a swear word.
I only very rarely swear at people OOCly, and I avoid using any racial or homophobic slurs in character. I just don't think it fits. (Racial IC slurs, like Flappies for those pesky elves is another thing entirely)
I've not seen this rule enforced since I joined the tribe at least. As long as it's kept from getting too offensive. There is such a thing as taking it too far the other way.

Rargnasha

Some people swear IRL. I can imagien that our characters, being real people in their own world, would certainly also swear now and then.

Unless Rargnasha is IC'ly convinced that a rule against swearing is needed, then there's not going to be a rule against swearing IC'ly.
Appendix means... What?!

Rhonya

I'm not too bothered by it either, as long as it doesn't go too far or is used against someone to truly verbally 'smash' them into the ground. I agree with what both Rargnasha and Therak said, everyone is different and has different opinions. If people don't like the swearing that is being done, which is hardly done at all to be fair, there is always an ingame swear Filter.

I think you are missing the point entirely.
It has / was / is a rule that nobody wants to reinforce now.
It was, but as times change not now.
Swearing for swearing sake is not cool as some people think.

I do not thing it is IC when somebody say's "Well your FU@@ed" in IC chat.
That is just swearing for the sake of it.
So we drop another RP issue that made us different from the rest of the server Ok your call.

Actually, a character saying "Well, you're f#cked..." would be IC, and not just swearing for an OOC reason. You can play a foul mouthed character, that'd be one of his/her characteristics. If someone ICly looks down on that fine. But as long as it's kept within reasonable limits I don't see any reason to OOCly force someone to change his character.

I don't agree with the rule, and I've in my years here never seen it enforced. So while it apparently does exist it's as outdated as the (supposed) danish law that lets them use sticks to batter any Swedes who walk across the sea when its frozen. It's might exist but it's not enforced and could aswell be removed.

As a swede... it's real. Have I mention I never gone to Denmark?

It's just there because some Swedish king went over the ice and started beating up Danes.

I haven't seen the law myself. But it did feature on a list of weird laws. On the internet though so I wouldn't bet an arm on it being entirely true.
There are however plenty of outdated laws all over the world :)

Every english man over the age of 14 or 15 needs to once a week (or month) report to the local church for bow practice incase of his service being needed in war.

Lots of silly laws exist.

As for swearing IC. I say Therak has expressed my views very well. While I agree that swearing for the sake of it is stupid. At times it's the only thing fitting and removing cursewords from language does langauge a disservice.

Also odd laws
In Ireland up until 1984 suicide was a crime punishable by hanging.(/facepalm)  And up until 2006 it was illegal for trinity college students not to carry a sword

WHICH IS PREPOSTEROUS  LOL.

If nothing else this topic should be kept going for the stupid laws there some great ones.

There's (supposedly) a city in the US which has a $500 fine for detonating a nuclear device within the city limits.

It's a crime to name your goat Napoleon in France. (It's apparently insulting, even though goats are beings of sheer awesomeness)
