Osan the Orc

Osan sat motionless. Around him was nothing but the endless, parched barrens, in which, rested amongst a patch of yellow long grass dancing in the slight wind was him. It was a calm day something that ought to be cherished in times of war. His eyes closed listening intently to the gusts of air that whirled through the limping vegetation causing it to stir and flicker. The leaves on a nearby tree clattered scaring its occupants who in startled squeals bursted into the shining light chirping and darting effortlessly away into blue sky.

Osan smiled taking in a deep breath. Suddenly he could hear something moving at speed, a sound that was far too familiar yet not so familiar to the land itself. He opened his eyes slowly but in the blinding light had to squint in the direction from where the noise was coming. Then it came scampering through the reeds like a charging raptor, its head stretched out like a ready spear. Osan sat still trying to remember where he had placed his blade. However there was little cause for it as the creature burst into the small opening where the orc sat; clucking impatiently scraping its claws across the ground and pecking wildly at any small insect that moved.

The orc sighed and grumbled to himself patting the chicken that was now nestling itself in the dry soil occupying itself with a dust bath, pushing up plumes of dust.
"Chicken not scare me!" growled Osan impatiently. "Me could have turned ya into a a 'eadless chicken!".
The Chicken peered up at the orc and tilting its head replied with a simple high pitched "bawk". Osan nodded and closed his eyes once again and continued to enjoy the now seemingly less tranquil day. It was not long after the arrival of his chicken that the creature had begun to spray the orc with reasonable chunks of dirt its dust bath reaching new heights of cleansing goodness.
"Stop that!" roared the orc causing the chicken to stop half way through showering itself with more dirt. "Now you know Mr chicken me no like to have dirt thrown at me". The chicken seemingly surprised at an orc taking such a serious note lost interest in its bath and began to scamper around the small opening. Osan eyed the chicken as it curiously ventured round the surrounding long grass pecking and digging at anything that could be dinner.

Osan knowing that the chicken would ruin any hopes of being able to sit peacefully and listen to nature, decided instead to observe the land from where he sat. His eyes grew more and more used to the bright light that spilled out from the burning sun. Out across the plains he saw far into the distance a herd of Kodo plodding their way towards the nearest lake and closer by sat a large group of Gazelle pulling up dried grass taking little notice of the Greenskin. Osan peered down near to hist feet
and noticed a groove in a patch of sand covered in worker ants moving onwards away from the orc.

The Chicken reappeared almost the instant Osan had noticed the ants. The creature dived into the poor insects, gobbling any ant unfortunate to come under its sharp gaze. However as his pet gorged itself on the helpless bugs more ants appeared larger and fiercer then the others. Osan peered at the army of ants as they charged the chicken at speed, forcing the bird to jump up and flutter only to retaliate with another bombardment of pecking. The orc, now tired of the company picked up his crossbow and sword rising slowly and marched away.

Waddling along he noticed how the barrens became increasingly quiet even more so how the sun came beating down with the heat. He went on reminding himself to get a shave next time he visited Orgrimmar to help cool him down. Soon the orc had wandered into a dry river bed that was overlooked by a small oasis growing in the shadow of a small mountain.

Osan sat down again finding a new spot to take in the calm. The quiet began to grow on the orcs mind, memories of his father and his mother, the tribe all started to flood in at once. He remembered the last time he saw his father, how the orc would cut swathes of foes down with a brutal swing of his axe before a return blow took him away forever. How his mother would take him down to the lake when he was a pup, in what felt now like an all too foreign land and tell him stories of brave orc heroes and terrible monsters. Then of course the tribe, the chiefs long and arduous talks that to Osan not even the most brave and cleverest of warriors could not doze of to. Norviskrall's kindness and always having an endless supply of booze for the orcs that Osan could depend on to get himself drunk. And Claws who had made them run around the whole of Hammerfall in nothing but their shabby underwear.

The orc began to delve deeply searching for the memories he had forgotten through time. There, he saw it now floating in his mind, vivid but accurate of the first day he had killed a human. The smell of burning houses, the unmistakable smell of smoke and black powder mixed with blood. The cold stare from a corpses eye, wide open, the essence of fear slowly dissolving into an ocean of hate and despair only to settle on the planet itself.

The scampering of feet came once again causing the orc to grunt and rise slowly. His Chicken stormed into view this time however followed by a large lion. Osan quickly grabbed his crossbow and charged forward roaring. The chicken on seeing its master fluttered and pounced attempting a short flight which resulted in a quick thud as it collided with the orcs head. Osan blinded by the bird suddenly dropped his crossbow felt a sharp pain round his gut as the lion made contact with its claws.

The two began to wrestle violently rolling across the floor sending up clouds of dirt and dust that agitated the eyes. The Greenskin began to bring home the hits bringing his burly fists down on the attacker. The lion roared in pain and tried to escape but the orc simple dragged it back and with a final blow between its eyes killed the cat of for good.
"Hah!" roared Osan in defiance. "Stoopid lion think he can defeat the mighty Strongtusk and eat his chicken?!".

Osan turned to his chicken which quivered and shook at the sight of the monster.
"Come now Mr Chicken we can medit..med...Meditate later me just reminded maself that chiefy wants us to go bash humans with trolls". The two moved of towards the crossroads leaving the lions corpse in the sun. As the light started to fade a shadow fell over the dead body. A cloaked orc nudged the corpse with her staff and mumbled to herself shaking her head steadily "Stupid pup always leaving a trail of destruction where ever he goes". She peered of over into the direction of the crossroads and back to the lion. "One day we will see, one day".
