Quote from: Umaua on October 14, 2015, 02:12:27 PMBut as a employed person, watching the comments of business owners here lately...I am not surprised at my reaction! :D
I'm a student. Just mentioning that. I also think our entire economic system is mostly bullshit, but for now it's the best alternative still.
I just don't have a problem with reality. If -every- letter sent had the protection you can pay for. The normal price of a letter would be higher. And people like you would whine about it.
Because then the poor people couldn't even send a normal piece of paper through the mail.

If the mail delivery system failed often. Stuff would get done about it. If it fails occasionally ... Shit happens, nothing's fool proof.
They have different levels of service for reasons like I mentioned. (Talking about mail and delivery in specifics here).

People like me whine when people are treated like tools. We want change, and without whine, there won't be any.

With people like you, nothing in the world would ever get better because "Well, the world just works like this. Suck it up."

Also, here postal stuff used to be reliable, with the 1% loss and so on. They were government owned. They also compensated better if the mistake was clearly on their end. Now they are a company and the 1% climbs up and if someone criticizes them for it they blame the lack of funds. That is the line that when used, anyone in a position of power will just nod their head and stuff subsidies in or help them to stay in monopoly without anything changing.
And they call me insane? I am the most sane person around!

Lars

Whining doesn't help unless it's a big plurality, or a majority.
Also seem's that the big letter company in Finland and Sweden are the same. And I really can't complain about their services in Sweden.

As for me. I generally think the world at large continues to grow better. Slowly. However, that doesn't change all the suck. Especially not suck on a people level. We need systematic change in the long run. But neither people, society, or technology is ready for that. Hopefully it and we will in 100-150 years.

Unless some idiot tries to change society from this greedy bullshit which spurs technological iteration, adaption and efficiency balanced with a good level of state sponsored technological research for the sake of knowledge.
People try to push it from either side. Some try to cut all state sponsored research (where almost ALL knew discoveries within hard science happen). Some try to limit iteration and production of shit already in existence. From all sources, all sides.

Well atleast I've got good news from the company I bought it from, they will send new items, aswell as send a man out from GLS (some post company) to get the damaged wares. So now I can relax a bit more..

Indeed, lotsa bad decisions are made to save our new god, the all powerful and merciful economy.

However I disagree on the whining part.

Big whine is what makes the big changes, so that something happens. Small whine makes sure we ever get to the big whine. If none would whine, then nothing would go forward.

Well, except the agendas of business and big money. Or just very ruthless people.

I also disagree that the technology would not be ready for it. People tend to act like just tribalistic apes out of the jungle, but technology is ready or very close to it. The advancement of tech is so rapid that we could make a different society work. But it needs leadership, not apathy or "lets just wait" attitude.

We already produce enough food worldwide to feed every person, there is just no will to develop tech that would guarantee that it could be moved. Maybe the tech even exists but the usual outcry is "Costs, money! No profits!" But the tech is not the real issue.

Lars

We don't produce enough energy through not earth harmful ways yet to leave it.
And let's face it. Anyone living as we in Scandinavia do won't give it up. Nor will people in North America.

People in Africa, Asia, etc. They want to live like this.
That means MORE energy than we currently use.
Yes, a lot of that could be covered by solar, if we applied it. So yes, it is a question of leadership. But if we can actually get fusion to work, that'd be even better.

It's also a question about people being ready for it. I personally want the EU to become one nation. (On the road to the globe being "one nation"). Most people freak out when I say that.
Same as any sufficiently advanced society will be basically what Karl Marx describes will happen. We're just not there yet.
We can't replace most jobs with machines yet. We're getting there. We'll get there quite soon (in my term of thinking).

I'll also say we have a different view of what "whine" is. For me whine is done on the internet in circles of jerking. Or in a pub over a drink. Neither get shit done.
Big whine is just a lot of people doing it.
For shit to get done you need to be active and do stuff. Not whine about stuff.

I will however agree partly on the food issue. But more that we in the west throw shit out and over consume. A problem when we send things to poor countries is that it tends to wreck their nations. Since, as I said. Most of society isn't ready to abandon our "economy".
I generally think that part of it will look different already in 50 years. Personally I think most jobs in the transportation industry will be gone within that time. For example. Which will force either some form of basic income on us (good thing imo) or well. Massive upheaval and feudalism.

I don't have a "let's just wait" attitude. I have a "Let's work and make it better" attitude. And hopefully my kids, or grand-kids, will get a better deal. Unless my parents, grandparents, and my generation screws it up for them.
But for that our current (rather sucky I'd agree) status quo is most likely still needed.

Also, grats on it working out Rashka!

Yes I think we have a different opinion of whine.

Anything that demands something to change while the people in power don't want it..is whine. And even internet and pub whine is important. Revolutions, discontent and wish to change start small.
All we'd need is few persons who hear this whine, agree with the whine and then inspire others to take up arms, so to say.

And the fact is that in the future, for us all have the same quality of living some things need to change. Like the consumerism that just wants more, more and more. The banking systems, stock markets and the systems that live on the excess and constant devouring of more resources.

And those systems are ruled by people with no fear of consequences nor feel for responsibility.

Yet, rampant consumerism is why we have what we have and the thing that's spurred the growth of most of it.
I'll agree that the apathetic way most people go along with it "More! More! More!" and such is horrid. I keep talking about "A better brand of consumer". As an example, there are several large chains and such I don't buy shit from because I feel they've had horrible commercials 15 years ago.
I also dislike big deals made behind closed doors, selling of credit card information for targeted adds, etc.
And the thing you mentioned isn't the problem really. Without banks and stock markets we'd never have what we do today. The problem is how people in them view them today.
Quarterly EARNINGS is a problem. Speculative marketing is a problem. More so when it's done on FOOD. Aka, regulation of shit like that needs to be better.
As for excess. Everyone in Europe lives in extreme excess aside from those in extreme poverty. The internet is a sign of excess.

And Regorn, you didn't miss much.

Umaua

Yea, didn't miss much.

But I also disagree again.

Sure, they are the reason we have what we have today. But sometimes systems and things grow bloated and become more a burden than a benefit. That is when they need to be replaced for a better system.

And modern banks -are- a problem.

When people's earnings followed the production, it worked. But nowdays wages grow stagnant or even shrink, while the money banks and stockmarkets is higher than ever!

Like 6 years ago, the world produced 46 billion and the money that was moving was 460 billion. That is what the stocks and banks do, and that is why rampart greed is so welcome. It fuels this imaginary system from where the benefits flow to the pockets of the few.

The game (and tv-show) is called Wakfu, I think there was an earlier tv-show called Dofus as well, but I am not sure.
