The option to see posts since last visit, "Show unread posts since last visit.", has never worked for me for some reason.
Is it supposed to be non-functional?

Well, I think the name is a bit misleading: I think it is supposed to show a list of posts that were submitted since your last action before the current login. It doesn't really care if you have more unread posts; if last time you were logged in you didn't read any, then it still doesn't list those posts ever again, instead it only shows the list of those posted between your last action before the current login (="last visit") and the current login, if any.
...Unless it even considers a "visit" the last time you were active, as in the last time you did an action before <insert here the time for a player to be erased from the active players list> elapses.

Or this is all wrong and it's something else. *sagenod*

Aaaaanyhows, its empty for me. Always. Nomather what threads I've read in the past and how long I stay away. I always have to consult the Recent-tab to see what I am missing.

Oh, well, sorry, I somehow thought it may be a matter of different expectations from it. I'm sure I encountered an issue on some forum where the "unread posts since last visit" result was correct, but if I didn't read anything, nor log out, simply come back to read after half an hour, the list was suddenly empty.

But, I searched a bit for the issue, and found out there is a bug or more in the SMF forum package about this list of unread posts being empty, apparently it is not known yet when exactly it reproduces (it happens "for some users"), and the proposals for fixes are not tested yet.
Examples of discussions around the issues:
Is there a fix for the "show unread posts since last visit" glitch?
Action=unread AND action=unread;all not working for new members.
Also, there are reports saying that issues with the list happen more often in newer versions of SMF (like, more in 1.1.8, than in 1.1.7. Gotta love upgrades and new features...). We seem to have 1.1.4 here.

Anyway! The only thing that I gathered so far, that you could do, might be to try using the "mark all posts as read" action. It might help (the unread since last visit list might be correct afterwards). Or not...

Ah! Good one, didn't think off that one, will try it!
