Application: Ghanruk Dreadhowl

Ghanruk

Throm-ka friends!  :)

I thought I'd apply with my orc shaman that's been on the RP-shelf for quite a long time now (since 2012), mainly because I never found him a proper guild.
I myself started roleplaying during Burning Crusade when my cousin introduced me to Argent Dawn, ever since I've had several main characters on the server.
One of my most notable characters has been Baalach, a draenei Vindicator of the former Triumvirate of O'ros (now Aldori Axiom). There he was held the position as the right hand of the Triumvir (the leader of the guild).
On my character page for Baalach on the Argent Archives you will find that I've also been very active in producing pictures, banners and guild pages for people over the years.

Character name: Ghanruk Dreadhowl
Class: Shaman
Level: 100

I just re-wrote my character description so I thought I'd just copy-paste that:

His wolf mask torn and battered, Ghanruk's golden eyes still betray the sharp instincts of a hunter.
Although his hair is now grey with age it still grows in a thick mane, a single braid bound on the back of his head with shamanistic charms and beads. The orc has grown his beard long, it too bound with various tribal trinkets and rings.

Ghanruk's face and body are covered in scars, some minor, other less so. A particularly livid scar marks the area above his right eye, a testament to a close encounter with death.
At first glance the shaman appears old, but on closer inspection you realise that he is ancient - weathered and beaten, hardened by the elements until what remains is gnarled and tough, an unchangeable part of the worlds that have shaped him.
Despite his age Ghanruk is powerfully built, his shoulders knotted with thick cords of muscle. Age has not robbed him of his strength, and while he no longer has the speed of youth the shaman has gained far more than he has lost through elemental knowledge and experience in battle.

The staff he carries rattles and clanks under the weight of fetishes and baubles festooned around it, some of obvious power, others of dubious value. The wood itself mirrors its owner, hardened in fire, smoothed and shaped by the wind and rain, bent but not yet broken.

And here is one of my old stories from like... 2011, it sort of describes my character a little bit further:

Ghanruk Dreadhowl took a deep breath. The goblin prisoner held firmly in front of him had minutes ago assaulted the leader of the Hand of Hellscream, Grumthar Maimfist. He breathed out slowly, shaking his head in both pity and an attempt to clear his mind. "Winds help me" he thought. The goblin shivered in the hands of the strong orcish warriors on either side of him.
Ghanruk pitied the goblin, not as a person but as a creature. He knew that the creature would have to be severely punished even though the Warmaster had not been harmed in the rather "explosive" attack. And now that the Warmaster was not present, Ghanruk would have to declare what punishment this one would have to endure.
“You have spat, not only on the honor of the Hand of Hellscream… but also on the honor of the Horde… goblin.” he began, his deep voice suddenly echoing over the Valley of Honor.
The goblin made an attempt at begging for mercy, only to be dismissed by Ghanruk green hand, he continued:
“You assaulted our Warmaster in the middle of our city. As a member of the Horde, you have ignored the rights of another... and thereby denied yourself your own.”
He paused, the goblin desperately trying to shake loose his small arms from the hands of the War-seekers beside him, shouting out mixed sentences of obscenities and apologies. Ghanruk clutched his fists as he looked away.
“… and now you will be punished for these crimes against the Horde, goblin.”
He looked at the approaching Torza Thunderfist, whom just returned from a brief conversation with a Forsaken witness.
After nodding grimly in her he spoke again:
“This will serve as a warning to all those who wish harm upon our Horde… Battle-maiden Thunderfist, if you would be so kind…”
He could hear the goblin swallow his own tongue, words stuck in his throat as he began to realise what was to come. Soon however, words of both anger and fear splurted out of him once more as he demanded a proper trial.
Battle-maiden Torza came up to the goblin, looking down at the loud and sweating criminal with an expression of repulse.
“I will merely break his jaw this time, Elder... but if I ever witness another crime comitted by you, I will take a limb.”
She said the last words in a whisper, signaling for the orc warriors to raise the goblin in front of her.
Ghanruk let out a silent sigh of relief, this was a gesture of mercy from her side.
“Very well, Battle-maiden…”

With the sound of the goblins jaw cracking behind him, Ghanruk left the group of people that had now gathered to witness the punishment being carried out. Just as the shaman once again felt sorry for the creature and it's self-destructive behavior, the cheering of the crowd ensued.

Howdy Ghanruk, and thanks for applying! Not only will your pretty pictures and graphic wizardry probably endear you to people quite fast, but your app is very good! Ghanruk looks like quite a nuanced character, and you write very descriptively. Things we typically ask applicants to think about are their characters' backstories from birth, and why would they seek out the Red Blade tribe in the present day -- but I'm confident from what I've seen here that you're seasoned enough to not be Illidan's son, or born in Durotar 70 years ago, or such. xD

So with that said, consider this application approved. Simply poke an officer or eligible senior member in-game for your in-character introduction, so we can give Ghantruk an opportunity to seek out the Red Blades! A list of such members is here: http://orcsoftheredblade.com/forum/index.php?topic=2440.0

Best of luck, and... for the Blood of the Tribe~!

No, Ghanruk here was raised in Gnomeregan as the bastard son of a fair goblin maiden and none other than Uther Lightbringer.  ;)

Thank you, I'll be sure to do just that. The only thing you ugys might want to know about me is that I work quite a lot, specifically with things that demand a lot of attention even during my freetime - so sadly I don't have the same amount of time to spare for RP as I used to. I really hope this is ok with you as I'd like to spend those few moments of RP with a nice group of peo- eh, orcs.

As for the real background story of Ghanruk, he was (of course) born and raised on Draenor.
The old background story I had for him felt a bit outdated as I want to apply some details that have since been clarified/added with WoD. I'll be sure to write something asap. :)

That's quite fine, as we've spoken ingame as well, we have no activity rule, so no worries about that! :D We also have a story section and such if you want to flesh out your character on 'paper' more, so lots of options to use.
Hope to see you soon ingame!
