Hai there! I wouldn't necessarily say alive as we mostly use our Discord server for all guild-related matters and discussions, but I certainly still keep an eye on it! If you want to check out the Discord and have a talk with us, feel free to join us at the link:

Orcs of the Red Blade Enter the Metaverse!

Orcs of the Red Blade has always striven to be at the forefront of the newest developments in the world of roleplay. Now, on April 1st 2022, we are pleased to announce our next step to help propel WoW RP into the future: Straight into the Metaverse!

As of today, ORB is embracing Web 3.0 technology by introducing its own cryptocurrency: The Shrewdcoin! Based on the clan’s most illustrious canine, the Shrewdcoin opens the door to a slew of possibilities that will benefit not only ORB’s stakeholders and other GMs who stand to gain from a monetized roleplaying experience, but also the roleplayers themselves in experiencing a new era of self-expression and self-idolization!

Along with Shrewdcoins, we will be introducing our very own non-fungible tokens: The Nominal Orcish Proprietary Effect! NOPEs will be obtainable exclusively with Shrewdcoins and for its first drop will allow you to own your very own piece of Red Blade history in the form of a representation of Chieftain Kozgugore Feraleye’s iconic costumes from throughout the years! These Chieftain avatars, acutely nicknamed “Kozzitars”, will sell for .0666 Shrewdcoins ($0.0009 at the time of writing), plus transaction fees.

For our first release, we will be selling 250 NOPEs in our first drop for a collection that will ultimately reach no less than 500,000 NOPEs. Those who purchase multiple NOPEs will have a chance to win exclusive prizes, such as being featured in the guild’s Message of the Day or becoming the guild’s GM (Chieftain) for a day.

In a first reaction, ORB’s GM Kozgugore had this to say:
Quote“I truly believe NOPEs and Shrewdcoins will set off a new era of IP creation, community development and roleplay monetization. Shrewdcoins will be a revolutionary way to introduce the “play to earn” concept that people have become so excited for into more households, while NOPEs will be the ultimate form of self-expression.

I believe that these new technologies and concepts will provide us with numerous opportunities to enrich people’s lives through digital entertainment, which is at the core of our guild. We remain committed to creating, developing, and providing world-class content, and we will contribute to the happiness of society and its people by offering new forms of excitement. With Shrewdcoins and NOPEs, I truly feel we are one step closer to fulfilling our original mission of enriching the Metaverse with the introduction of more Orcish customs and practices.”
The future is very meta, the future is very verse! Stay tuned for more announcements as Shrewdcoins and NOPEs will branch out for guild ranks, ancestral favours, two-second GIFs from our guild trailers, Verzan Skywise’s first ever Tweet, digital spots around the campfire and much more!

Spreading the Word: Our Own Twitter Page

Throughout the 16 years that Orcs of the Red Blade has been around, a lot has changed not only in World of Warcraft, but on the internet itself as well. One such things is how people stay in touch with one another and how social media can help keep people informed. Unfortunately, our trusty, old website has seen less traffic and updates over the years despite the guild remaining alive and well, primarily due to platforms such as Twitter and Discord taking over the role of old-fashioned forums.

To stick with the times, Orcs of the Red Blade now has its own, "official" Twitter channel upon which regular updates will be shared about events, artwork or other shenanigans and hijinks involving our orcs!

Keep up with our adventures at https://twitter.com/VerzanSkywise!

A Tribute to Kulgha

It is with great sadness on this Christmas day that we need to share the news that one of our members, Kulgha (also known as Karhla), has passed away last week on the 17th of December.

Kulgha had been battling with her illness for some time now, but her optimistic and helpful nature was an inspiration to all of us. She was warm, kind and always giving, and even when she felt poorly, she led events at the Kosh’harg. It’s no surprise, then, that she made many great friendships both in our community as well as outside of it. Which is why I feel we had to share this news a little more publicly as well.

Many of us had a plethora of treasured memories from our RP with Kulgha, who was always fully committed to something once she had a great idea, such as being the clan’s wolf handler. Out of character, too, she had a massive heart and was truly a great person to be around. Several times, she reached out to me when I was in a rather bad spot myself, and I know I’m not the only one for whom she did so for that matter. She truly cared for people, even when barely knowing them and having far worse things on her own mind what with everything that life threw at her.

Aka’Magosh to a wonderful person. You will be sadly missed, Kulgha. The world and Azeroth will be a poorer place now that you’re not in it.

Many thanks to Durgrol for sharing this news with us.

Oath of Sharguul

Through Sharguul’s Dark Fang, we silence those who mean us harm.
Through Sharguul’s Blackfur, we protect those we love.
Through Sharguul the Unborn, we devote ourselves to his word.
Sharguul, walk with us in life as we walk with you in death.
Now we are the shadows that watch over the clan and pack!

Culture of the Cult of Sharguul

Taboos
The focus of Sharguul rests upon the acts that have to be done and deeds to be committed that others do not wish to do. They are recognised as a necessity if lives are at stake from the clan. To do what is right, but might stretch the code of Akashok, is what Sharguul approves of in his followers. Rather than having these deeds carried out with malice, spite, or heartless convictions, the claws of Sharguul strike with the wellbeing of the clan in mind. His following holds no place for those that have ill intent and seek to misuse his patronage.

Unlike those who thread in the steps of Vrull, Sharguul seeks no recognition for the deeds done. Whilst they are not celebrated, not even in private, they do not go unremembered. Those who do follow him often have a list of acts which have been carried out even in violation of the clan's tenets, to remember what has been done as others will not. They do not take credit, nor do they take the blame, they always work in the shadows.

Devotion
Many who worship Sharguul come from different backgrounds, although all do casually offer a half-thought prayer or draw the symbol of Blackfur when speaking of death. Piety is strong when his followers dabble in his areas, but they quickly push away the spectre of death when they are mingling in everyday life.

Some of the more extreme followers actively oppose the undead that wander both the ranks of the clan and the Horde, as that does go against the cycle and keeps the spirits of the fallen from passing on to the realm beyond.

Just like how there are two sides to the Unborn, there are also two names for him; Dark Fang and Blackfur. Those who follow his way of sticking to the shadow and guarding the clan from the outside and the inside, refer to him as Dark Fang. Those who tend to the fallen and seek the safe passing of those who have perished often call him Blackfur, for it is the colour of the pelt you see when you pass on to the next realm.

Proverbs of the followers

One hand is used for giving - Much like the duality of the spirit, this phrase contains just that. It is used as a salute to those around, but also dubs as a warning. Those who utter the words have their motivations remain a secret, and a gift in one hand may be offset by a threat in the other.

If you cannot lie, speak the truth - In a faith of secrecy and duality this phrase is used both as an insult and as advice. Lies are often laced with the hints of truth, it is what makes them more believable. It is a phrase often said when the thin veil of lies has been pierced by the insight of the speaker.

By the blood and the word - Often used as an oath and promises for secrecy to be taken to the grave, swearing that only Sharguul shall hear it in person (and only once the person making the oath has perished), or that he will claim the oath-maker early if he breaks the promise of secrecy. It is often accompanied by the touch of a finger and a thumb to the sides of the neck (as if choking), followed by kissing or licking the first two fingers of that hand.

Three must fall - A commonly heard phrase among orcs who train to become Stalkers of the Gul'thauk. Outsiders to the Path of Cunning don't know the true meaning behind it, but it's often spoken as if to signify an important goal.

Subtle like Sharguul - Advice commonly heard among the Gul'thauk. Just as Sharguul is the quiet shadow that follows every orc unto death, the Gul'thauk are like the shadows that remain unseen, waiting for their unsuspecting prey. Gul'thauk often recommend one another to be as 'Subtle as Sharguul' when heading out on missions or when parting ways.

The Sacrament of Death

The Sacrament of Death is a ceremony that blesses the fallen on their journey to the after life, the Gul'thauk will learn all about death by preparing a deceased body, crafting a pyre and performing the Sacrament of Death ceremony. This task should remain with all Gul'thauk throughout their tenure in the Path of Cunning as it's one of the most important sacraments in the path.

Steps for the Sacrament of Death:

- The Deceased Body

Cleansing the body will require it to be cleaned and mended where it can be, the body will need the markings of Sharguul painted on it or carved in to it by one of the Varog'Gor's Fangs of the Unborn. The latter will be determined by a Varog'Gor's alignment as it could be deemed disrespectful. The deceased's personal belongings should be placed alongside them, this includes any armour or weapons they will need in the after life.

- The Pyre

To prepare the Acolytles will have to collect wood and then they will have to craft pyre from scratch. Herbs will be needed for cosmetic reasons that revolve around preserving the body.

- The Sacrament of Death

The pyre will be ready by the start of the ceremony. All orcs are asked to gather. Once they are all there, silence will be asked and they will be greeted with a small prayer, to ask for Sharguuls attention.

Sharguul, Spirit of old
Hear these words, hear my cry
Spirit from the other side
Blackfur, Dark fang
Cross now the great divide

Tender to the ones that die
Your guidance do we ask
Honor us with your shadows
For this important task.

Following the prayer, some words may be spoken about the orc laid to rest on the pyre, such as their name, rank, how they fell and that they will next be honoured. Others may be invited to speak if they wish, or to lay down their offerings. Tradition dictates that any mate or closest loved ones may have the first honour.

Next comes the cutting of the palm. If the orc being laid to rest is a full member of the clan, following will be said:
"[Name], we hold you to your oath. Your duty to us is done, Akashok looks down upon you with pride, our clan ancestors will welcome you. Your oath is fulfilled, and we thank you."

If a New Blood of the clan is being laid to rest:
"[Name]. With this we recognize you as a [brother/sister] in blood. You fell in service of the clan and we will honor you for this. May our ancestors welcome you on the Plains."

After that, the black fur will be laid over the body with the following words:
"Black fur, for protection on the road to the next place. Sharguul, embrace this Orc and safely guide her to her ancestors, her loved ones, so they may take her in their midst."

Atop the black fur, a dark wolf fang will then be laid upon the chest.
"Dark Fang, to give the strength for the journey ahead. Sharguul, protect this Orc and safely guide her to her ancestors, her loved ones, so they may take her in their midst."

Finally, one of the Gul'thauk or a Varog'Gor will bring a burning torch. The mate or loved ones are asked if they wish to have the honour to light the pyre or not - otherwise the Gul'thauk or Varog'Gor will do so. When the pyre is put afire, the following words are spoken:
"Sharguul, we release this spirit to you. The one whose feet are stilled and the one who laughs with us no more. To you we say, our love was with you here, and goes on with you now... to that place where you rest and take delight. Blackfur, Dark Fang will guide you. May his paws lead you along the path, to that place where all is fresh and green. Where lovers, friends and ancestors wait with open arms to greet you."

Teachings of Zeal
Acolyte

Student of Death

Task: Just as Sharguul gets to know the orcs he ferries to the Shadowlands, a Gul’thauk must also know their fellow orcs. Speak to at least three orcs of the Clan and learn of their history and family. Write a report outlining each detail that you learn.

Requirement: Casual RP and IC report

Black Garb

Task: Hunt a wolf of your own choosing and craft a ceremonial garb to show your devotion to Sharguul. The traditional garb of Sharguul is black, but the choice is yours as to what kind of item you choose to fashion from your prey. Others may accompany you on the hunt, but the final blow must be your own. Provide a short report of the hunt.

Requirement: Casual RP / event and IC report

Dance of the Dead

Task: Study the Sacrament of Death and learn how to carry it out. Then, practice the Sacrament by hosting an event that either honours one or more fallen orcs or ancestors, or by hosting a general ritual to Sharguul for the rest of the Clan to witness. Provide a report of your ritual.

Requirement: Event and IC report

Teachings of Loyalty
Stalker

From the Shadows

Task: Gul’thauk are the eyes and ears of the Clan. Organize at least three different kinds of scouting missions or set out to gather other forms of intelligence that are relevant to the Clan at that time, such as an enemy they are facing at a campaign. Recruit at least two or more fellow orcs to accompany you on the missions. Provide a report of each mission carried out and the intelligence learned from them.

Requirement: Casual RP and IC report

Urban Subterfuge

Task: Orgrimmar is the heart of the Horde, and much mischief goes on within its walls. Organize a mission to Orgrimmar in the interest of the Clan. Provide a report of this mission undertaken.

Requirement: Casual RP / event and IC report

Three Must Fall

Task: Hunt down three criminals who are sentenced to die in Sharguul’s name. A criminal is considered anyone who has trespassed any laws on the Code of Akashok. To do so, lead at least two or more missions of subterfuge for your Gul’thauk or, if possible, other orcs, so that they may bear witness to you performing these three sacrifices to Sharguul. These missions may involve sabotage, kidnapping, ambush, poison, assassination or other such activities, so long as they result in the dispensation of justice on behalf of Sharguul and the demise of his prey. Ensure each mission carried out makes use a different one of the aforementioned methods and a different kind of strategy. Provide a report at a Clan Meeting of each mission successfully carried out.

Requirement: Event and IC report

Teachings of Death
Darkcloak

Teachings From Beyond

Task: There is a deeper spiritual aspect to the Path of Cunning than just being cunning. Educate yourself in Sharguul’s ways or in the ways of our enemies by familiarizing yourself with Shadow, Fel, Light or any other form of foreign magic. You may decide for yourself in what manner you wish to control said magic, be it by simply learning of its many aspects or harnessing some manner of ability or spell yourself. You may find assistance in doing so however you wish, such as by gleaning knowledge from enemies or allies alike. Ensure it does not trespass the Code of Akashok, however. Finally, host a lesson on what you have learned so your fellow orcs may share in your knowledge. Provide a report of your findings to a Varog’Gor.

Requirement: Casual RP / event and IC report

From Beyond the Grave

Task: To dabble with necromantic or corruptive spiritual magics is to deny Sharguul's will. Yet even as threats such as the Scourge have been defeated, agents of undeath and dark shamanism alike still roam the lands. Track down a threat to the Clan or the Horde within the lands that dabbles with undead or other corruptive magics and put an end to their dealings. Bring a party of at least three or more orcs with you to ensure the job is done. Provide a report of your mission.

Requirement: Event and IC report

Shattered Souls

Task: There are many souls in this dark world who do not yet know the peace of death. Track down a troubled soul who remains stuck on the mortal plane and ensure their passing into the Shadowlands by performing the Sacrament of Death or any other means necessary to sever the ties that hold them linked to the mortal plane. Ensure there are at least three or more orcs present to assist you in the undertaking. Provide a report at a Clan Meeting.

¤  Orcish Lore  ¤  Orcish Timeline  ¤  Red Blade History  ¤  Red Blade Culture  ¤  Great Spirits  ¤  Red Blade Ranks  ¤  FAQ  ¤

When Sharguul revealed himself to the clan he spoke of the dangers that lurked in this world and the next, dangers that he could not see or understand. In Akashok’s name he called for the Path of Cunning to be reinstated into the clans foundations. Together they would learn of these threats and protect not only the Red Blade Clan, but his father’s pack from any harm. Thus Sharguul the Unborn, imposed his Dark Fang and Blackfur onto the Path of Cunning. The Path of Cunning now preaches three virtues, Devotion, Protection and Subtlety.

Devotion: Those who follow the Path of Cunning must be devoted to Sharguul and his teachings in protecting the clan at all costs. It’s often referred to as the Word of Sharguul, a divine purpose that the orcs must follow blindly. In doing so they will receive Sharguul’s blessing and his undying loyalty.

Protection: The stalwart protectors from the shadows, a follower of the Path of Cunning must always safeguard his clan and pack. Unlike those in the Path of Strength, the Path of Cunning protects the clan from outside threats by gathering information or even laying counterintelligence. Enemies of the clan have been known to suddenly disappear without a trace.

Subtlety: ‘Subtle like Sharguul’ is a phrase now common with the Path of Cunning of the Red Blade Clan. Like the shadows in a dark room, its orcs are there but not seen. Never rushed, hidden, waiting for their unsuspecting prey. Then, when the time is right, the orcs strike. Be subtle, be like Sharguul.

Cunning, deception and subterfuge; the Dark Knives, or Gul'thauk in archaic orcish, are most at home in the shadows. The Gul'thauk's duties are numerous. Though orcs typically place great value in honour and honesty, subterfuge is sometimes a necessary evil to get things done. In concert with the Varog'Gor, the Gul'thauk discreetly ensure the tribe's safety through scouting, gathering intelligence and research. Whether poring through ancient tomes or interrogating the enemy, the Gul'thauk must use all their cunning to win the day both on and off the battlefield.

The Gul’thauk must also show their devotion and faith in Sharguul. A Gul’thauk should never lose sight of the Path of Cunning’s new divine purpose. Daily chores revolving around the Wolf of Death are commonplace amongst those in the Path of Cunning. Like the Nag’Ogar and Gosh’kar, the Gul’thauk is split in to four ranks, each rank an improvement on the other. Eventually through experience they may become a Shadow, the highest rank available in the Path of Cunning.

Progression as a Gul'thauk:

Acolyte
The first step as a Gul’thauk is as an Acolyte, this is where the orcs will learn the fundamentals of what it means to go down the Path of Cunning. Acolytes will be introduced to the great wolf spirit Sharguul, discovering faith in this heavily religious side of the clan. The Varog’Gor will test this new found faith to see if they speak the truth, Sacrament of Death will be needed to advance to Stalker. Those that throw away Sharguul’s teachings will be exiled and will have to seek refuge in another path. Only those with the strongest devotion to the cause will remain.

“He came to me, his fur and fangs the blackest of black. His eyes like a winter ice, glowing white. I followed the great wolf and noticed his paws left a shadow imprint in the ground. He walked between worlds, guiding the lost towards the after-life. I have now passed on thanks to his aid. He deserves your devotion my love, I will be here waiting for you on the other side! We shall see each other again. Blessings to you, Sharguul!”
- Lover's letter

Stalker
Those who have proved devout will have advanced to a Stalker, this is where the Gul’thauk truly becomes the Dark Knives. The Varog’Gor will now train the Gul’thauk to become Darkcloak. They will actively engage in showcasing their skills in deception, subterfuge and tracking. “Three must fall!” is a common quote heard amongst the orcs when referring to the Stalker, none outside of the Path of Cunning truly understand what this means.

”I saw it! It came at night all in black! People say that I’m lying or making it up! Like a shadow, he killed the noble. There was nothing I could do! Why won’t anyone believe me!? I didn’t kill that noble! Get me out of this prison! Aaah!”
- A witness

Darkcloak
The faithful Darkcloaks, to have achieved this rank you would have had to prove yourself time and time again. Darkcloaks are the veterans in the Gul’thauk and the Varog’Gor know they can rely on the Darkcloaks to keep order in the clan. The Darkcloaks are known to investigate the faithful and eliminate heresy among the orcs, ratting out the non-believers in the clan. The Gul’thauk training now goes down a more philosophical route, how far can the Darkcloak bend the code? Would they sacrifice all else for the clan and the pack? How far would they push the boundaries to protect those they loved? The impossible questions would need to be answered if they wish to advance to Shadow.

”That Darkcloak makes me proud to be an orc, he died with honour protecting his clan, his family. He had the heart of a giant! It was like watching the old Red Guards of legend. We live because of him. One orc died on the battlefield to save many. That is how it should be!”
- Orc survivor

Shadow
The Shadow are the Gul’thauk excellence, they are feared by orcs because of their reputation. They are among the deadliest of killers and their devotion to Sharguul holds no bounds. The Shadow has gone above all else, mastering the three virtues, Devotion, Protection and Subtlety. They are the pinnacles of the Path of Cunning and the Varog’Gor trusts them to perform the most dangerous of tasks. Their training however isn’t over. Legends speak of a final task the Varog’Gor will give. Rumours say the final task can’t be completed in life...

”If you ever see a Shadow in the corner of your eye, some say you can see Sharguul, walking with them in life..."
- A scholar's insight

The Varog'Gor are known as some of the finest that the clan has to offer. Old orcish for Wolf Claws, the Varog'Gor are the eyes and ears of the Chieftain, remaining a constant vigil over not only his safety, but also the clan's. In addition to the clan's safety, they also ensure that the clan's customs, laws and codes are upheld by each of its orcs. In the event of a conflict within, it is the Varog'Gor who ensure law and order is maintained. The same goes for external threats, however. Be it bigger threats or the more subtle ones, the Varog'Gor are always on the lookout for the things that may threaten the pack's security.

Due to their dedication to the clan and its Chief, Varog'Gors are expected to put everything aside in favor of both. In exchange, they earn the respect from those inferior to them, serving as an example for others to strive for. To help them with their duties, Sharguul, son of Akashok restored the Path of Cunning to the clan, entrusting the Varog’Gor to lead it in his name. There is no direct path in becoming a Varog’Gor and only those worthy enough are chosen by the Chieftain, the Nag'Ogar, Gosh'kar and Gul’thauk are all eligible in joining the Varog'Gor.

Rituals and Ceremonies

Vision Quest - A personal quest undertaken by the Gosh'kar at will. This may be carried out any number of time, particularly when the Gosh'kar is in need of guidance or self-reflection. The Gosh'kar will ritually prepare themselves for a journey. Once they have arrived on the secluded location of their choosing, they ingest of a prepared mixture of herbs that will send them into a trance. The hallucinations and visions that follow will differ for every orc undertaking the Vision Quest, as will the duration thereof. The Vision Quest may take as little as a day and up to a week, with varying effects to their well-being depending on the orc's mental health. Upon return, the ensuing visions may be shared with a mentor or elder in order to help reflect upon them.

¤  Orcish Lore  ¤  Orcish Timeline  ¤  Red Blade History  ¤  Red Blade Culture  ¤  Great Spirits  ¤  Red Blade Ranks  ¤  FAQ  ¤

A long time ago, the Red Blades were little more than impetuous warriors, seeking glory, fame and honor for either themselves or the highest bidder. All of this changed when the warband settled down in the northernmost reaches of the Old World and reformed into a clan. It takes more than the primal might of the blade to guide a clan into prosperity, and so there came a need for enlightenment: orcs who made it their life's work to pursue religion and matters of the mind. Enter the Path of Wisdom.

Whether it's the Furies of the Old World, the elements of Azeroth, the ancestral spirits, medicinal healing or even matters of the mind, the Path of Wisdom is home to all orcs with an affinity for any one of these aspects. Shamans may be the most obvious choice when it comes to orcs, but even spiritually attuned orcs that are not trained in the arts of shamanism, wise men and women and more recently even mages have a place in the Path. Although the Path's focus lies rooted in the spiritual origins of the clan of old, it offers a place for all orcs who are continuously in search of further knowledge and enlightenment. In doing so, they, too, carry great responsibility in their spiritual duties to the clan as a whole.

The Gosh'kar, or Disciples of the Totem, form the spiritual center of the clan. It is by their guidance that the clan remains true to the spirits and the elements, and by their hand that its orcs remain in good health and do not give in to the malevolent influences of Azeroth. As such, the Gosh'kar are multifaceted in their roles and fill in a myriad of positions within the clan.

Not only do the shamans of the clan ensure that all elements remain in balance and the spirits are adequately honoured and pleased, fledglings to shamanism or orcs that are generally spiritually inclined are also welcomed to learn and harness the clan's spirituality. In addition to these orcs, spellcasters are also welcomed in to help further academical or other magical goals, as well as healers and other learned orcs - even diplomats and scribes. Indeed, the Path of Wisdom and its Gosh'kar carry a multitude of responsibilities, but the path is also a never-ending one: its orcs are expected to always continue seeking further enlightenment and wisdom - both for the clan's sake as well as their own.

Progression as a Gosh'kar:

Initiate
The Initiates are the first tier in the progression of the Gosh'kar. They have only just made their first steps to enlightenment, and are expected to keep a close eye on their peers and learn from them. When appointed a mentor, they will aid their mentor in the tasks they are given. It is during this time that the Initiates are expected to discover for themselves what future position within the clan would help them best in being of service to their kin.

Seeker
Seekers form the heart of the Path of Wisdom, standing as fully fledged Gosh'kars of the clan and entrusted to carry out any and all of its core duties in maintaining the clan's balance. Depending on the role they have chosen for themselves to fill in within the clan, they strive to fulfill these to the best of their abilities. The Path of Wisdom does not end here, however: Seekers are expected to continue on expanding their knowledge and skills, as an orc never ceases to learn new things.

Keeper
While the Path of Wisdom can be home to any orc who seeks to learn greater knowledge of matters of spirits, elements, magics, the mind or otherwise, it takes a particular amount of dedication and devotion to one's profession to rise above the average Gosh'kar. The Keepers are just that: proof that a Gosh'kar's pursuit for knowledge never ends, and that no excuse is great enough to keep an orc from expanding upon one's wisdom. The Keepers know exactly what their role in the clan is and have proven this to their fellow orcs, who have time and again been able to rely upon the Keeper's abilities and wisdom. It is they who have grown wise enough to teach newcomers to the Path of Wisdom, helping them, in turn, find their own lot in life.

Sage
The Sages are without a doubt the most experienced Gosh'kar treading upon the Path of Wisdom, second only to the Thur'ruks who lead them. They have proven to be a pillar of the community through the times, known among many of their fellow orcs to have helped out whenever their wisdom or expertise was called upon. The position of the Seer is just so much a position of guidance and authority as it is of reverence and respect, examples for other Gosh'kar to strive for.

Known for their wisdom and experience in all manners of mysticism, the Thur'ruk, or Spirit Speakers, are the clan's spiritual guides in times of both peace and war. They are considered to be the wisest sages among the clan. As such, they are responsible for leading the Path of Wisdom, guiding their fellow Gosh'kar in further search of knowledge and wisdom. They are also the clan's spiritual anchors, responsible for the most important rituals in order to preserve the balance between the clan and the spirits and elements alike.

Both in the times of the old clan as well as the present, it is the Thur'ruk who often serve as the chief advisers of the Wolfking. In addition to this, however, they are responsible for the Gosh'kar that are in their charge, ensuring they never tarry in their never-ending search for wisdom and enlightenment and aiding them in doing so.

Traditions, Challenges and Trials

Iron Feast - Traditionally, the Iron Feast was a rite performed before a large campaign. It was both a hunt and a feast. The Nag'Ogar that chose to take part would be sent out to hunt beasts worthy of their honour. Once the hunters had brought in their kill, the blood would be gathered in a bowl and the meat would be put over a fire. Once all hunters had returned, the Nag'Ogar and those from other paths taking part would begin the feast. The hunters would share the tale of their glorious hunt along with other tales of the past being told. The blood would be saved and blessed by a shaman, and upon the clans departure would be smeared onto the Rrosh'tul and Nag'Ogar as a blessing for the coming fight.

Iron Mettle - Being the best warriors the Clan has to offer, it is important that the Nag'Ogar not only stay sharp, but also know one another's strengths and weaknesses. The Iron Mettle occurs once every two moon cycles in place of a regular war training, and differs in the way that it is a way for any Nag'Ogar to challenge one another in whatever field of combat they prefer in order to grant advice and improvement upon one another. A feast will be held, organized by the Rrosh-tul of the Clan, with food and drink aplenty for those who participate.

Ok'Morah - A personal, although usually friendly, challenge issued from one Nag'Ogar to another. The challenger is customarily expected to set the conditions of the challenge, but death or crippling injury is never permitted.

Rite of Scarring - For orcish warriors, each scar they earn in battle is a part of them and their history, bringing them honor or potentially even a story to tell around the campfire. Within the Nag’ogar, however the Rite of Scarring occurs when a Nag’ogar or in some cases even a Rrosh-tul has broken one or more of the tenets, the clan code, or the very core principles of what it means to be a part of the Iron Guard. Should a Battlesworn Nag'Ogar or higher be faced with the Rite of Scarring - something only a Rrosh-tul can judge - they will stand in front of their fellow Nag’Ogar bare-chested and exclaim their failure for all to hear. And so, using the steel dagger they were given when they became Battlesworn, they will leave a scar across from their heart or weapon arm as a reminder and a lesson of their dishonor. Once the Orc has been marked, they are to be forgiven their transgressions, and treated with the same honor as all other Nag’Ogar, assuming the failure is not repeated.

Vrull's Fortitude - Vrull's Fortitude are a series of commonly held competitions within the Path of Strength, open for all to participate in. The competition will often feature an obstacle course with many trials to overcome, which are based upon the conditions of the region it is held within. Not only winners are honored, as there are many different ways to gain the spectators' respect.

Tenets of the Iron Guard

Honour
It is expected of every Nag’ogar to fight with honor, keep to the rules of war and the Code of Akashok. The Nag’ogar are the clans finest warriors, and should in turn serve as an inspiration to their brothers and sisters of the Clan, and as representatives of the clan on the battlefield.  Allies and enemies alike will know what they stand for, and that they can expect to be treated with honor.

Loyalty and Trust
Loyalty and Trust are paramount for the Nag’ogar. Not just towards the Rrosh-tul, but to their fellow Nag’ogar. A Nag’ogar is expected to share bonds of loyalty and trust with their fellow warriors, and to view their fellow Nag’ogar as brothers and sisters, standing side by side on the field of battle knowing that they are to protect the orcs beside them, just as the orcs beside them protect themselves. Any disagreements or questions of broken loyalty and trust are to be solved, if needed by the help of the Rrosh-tul. Two Nag’ogar who do not share trust and loyalty can not fight in unity.

Duty
It is expected of a Nag’ogar to live up to their duty as the shield and blade of the clan, and to do so to the best of their ability. As such they are expected to continuously hone their skills, keep their gear in order and keep a watchful eye when in hostile territory.

Courage
A Nag’ogar is expected to be courageous, but not foolhardy, they are expected to stand in front of danger, and not buckle in fear. They are the first and last bastion to defend the clan. Cowardice is not a trait harboured by the Nag’ogar, and any orc who wishes to be counted among their number must steel their hearts and minds, as well as their body. The Nag’ogar must be willing to face down even certain death should it be called for to protect the clan.

Duties of the Nag'Ogar

Honor, loyalty, trust, duty and courage. These are the tenets and qualities that the Path of Strength favours. From the early days of the Old World when the warlord Githya Redblade led a brutal campaign throughout the lands with his mercenary company, the name 'Red Blade' had already been a household name which was defined by these very traits. When the warband did eventually reform into a clan, however, it did not lose any of these flavors. Instead, the Path of Strength was founded to provide a specialized branch for all orcs with the ambition to turn the art of war into their profession and to protect those of the clan who could not defend themselves. Throughout the centuries, they were called upon countless of times to serve as the first line of defense against those who would threaten the clan, but also to ride out and bring the fight to their enemies themselves.

Following the tradition of the clan of old, the Path of Strength still stands as the largest branch of the Red Blade clan to this day. Led by their Rrosh-tul, the Nag'Ogar serve as the vanguard of the clan in times of war. While every orc is expected to be able to hold a blade in times of need, those of the Path of Strength are the ones who specialize in specific roles and will be the first choice to carry out the most dangerous and no doubt glorious tasks. As a consequence, orcs committing to the Path of Strength will be expected to keep their blades as well as their skills sharpened at all times, always seeking to perfect their skills as well as to expand their array of abilities. Even in times of peace. For in times of peace, the Path of Strength always prepares for war.

Like any clan of old, the Red Blade clan once possessed its own martial branch to call upon in times of strife and conflict. In the time of the clans, these were the Nag'Ogar: the Iron Warriors. They were each handpicked by the Wolfking himself, found worthy to feast in his great hall and to contest one another with bold challenges.

The Nag'Ogar of today are no different. Each are considered to be among the finest warriors that the clan has to offer and, together, they form the backbone of the Red Blade's martial strength. As such, it takes more than just sheer strength to be counted among the Nag'Ogar's very best. The perfect warrior is not only a fine fighter on the battlefield; they are also expected to function as a single unit, able to work together and tackle the mightiest of challenges in the theater of war. In addition to this, Nag'Ogar may be called upon for a wide variety of tasks, limited not only to the front lines, but also guard duty, patrols, reconnaissance, fortifying the clan's positions as well as other support tasks. As such, the Nag'Ogar come in many shapes and sizes, from the archetypal warrior and the lightly armored raider to even magi and battle shaman.

Ranks of the Nag'Ogar:

Grunt
Every New Blood who has pledged his or her service to the Path of Strength, will always start out as a Grunt - the term for the most standard of warriors within the Horde. No matter the past experience in the Horde military or in other mercenary work, every orc is expected to prove to their Rrosh-tul whether they have what it takes to not only master the basic fighting techniques, but also to work together in a unit of Nag'Ogar. While not yet a fully fledged member of the Path of Strength, they are expected to try their hardest to keep up with the rest and prove that they are up to the challenges that the Path will provide them.

Battlesworn
The Battlesworn are the backbone of the Nag'Ogar's ranks: the fully trained and qualified members of the Path of Strength who have shown that they have what it takes to be a reliable warrior for the clan. They represent everything that a traditional Nag'Ogar is supposed to stand for, having mastered all the basics that a warrior of the clan is expected to know.

Bloodrider
Seated high and mighty atop their dire wolves, the Bloodriders not only strike an imposing figure, but are also a highly mobile unit. In times of peace, they serve as scouts and specialize in tracking or patrolling the lands. In times of war, they serve as cavalry and pursue the enemies of the clan. Every Bloodrider's bond with their wolf is a special one, trained to have fight together as a single entity.

Elite
The Elite are the mightiest warriors that the Nag'Ogar have to offer. Through years of experience, they have time and again shown that they never hesitate to put their lives on the line for the clan's honor and safety. They are second only to the Rrosh-tul themselves, even serving as a second in command should the need arise, and stand as a textbook example of what every Nag'Ogar should strive to become. As such, they take it upon themselves to help guide the younger warriors, showing them the ropes and, much like the Rrosh-tul, ensure that they do not slack or grow complacent.

As the numbers within Clan Redblade grew, so too did their army. With the increasing amount of Nag'Ogar, the need arose to train more of these orcs, as well as to guide them in the field of battle. Inspired by the legendary warriors of old, the Rrosh-tul, the Blood Guard, rose up to be the link between the Chieftain and the Nag'Ogar on the battlefield. Carrying out his exact orders, they would make sure the warriors ended up where they were meant to be, and cut their way through the enemy's ranks under the Rrosh-tul's watchful guidance. After all, it was not martial skill alone that decided the outcome of the battlefield. Even the most skilled warriors require guidance, leadership and inspiration.

Whether a master tactician or a renowned fighter and leader, the Rrosh-tul have been hand-picked by the Chieftain and are trusted to lead his orcs into battle when the need arises. However, even outside of the battlefield does a Rrosh-tul's labor continue. It is the Rrosh-tul's charge to ensure that the Nag'Ogar serving underneath them continue to perfect their skills, training them in all manners of warfare and seeking to bring the best out of every single one of them.

Well that's just some great timing, to come pay us a visit during an anniversary like this! :D Always great to hear from you and Varg, Reh! You were a great influence on the guild back in the day that impressed myself as well, so it's always fun to see your name pop up!

The guild's forums may be quiet (it mostly serves for archival purposes than anything else at this rate), but our Discord's alive and kicking. A link can be found elsewhere on the forum somewhere, but any one of your oldies are always welcome to pop by should you ever dare risk dip your toes back into it!

You're always welcome to pitch in, Claws! Gladly in fact, because where would the guild be without its resident stalker in the bushes? ;)

The reason you probably missed the post previously was because most of the guild's communications happen on our Discord nowadays, which is a separate chat program. You're welcome to join it if you like really, but it might be a tad overwhelming with all the youngsters running about, who knows. :D
(Though having said that, the community's average age is probably quite a bit higher nowadays too - we're all getting old!)

In any case, great as always to hear from you Claws!
