Title: Honorary Member?
Post by: Jarilo on April 11, 2014, 06:30:12 PM
Ok so.

I've read about a situation that occurred a little while ago and it's made me a little uncomfortable, so i'm looking to migrate Moo properly.

Now I know thus far i've tagged along with you as the shining pile of burger, and we've had many adventures together, we've shed blood together and lost it and generally speaking he's (hopefully) endeared himself to a lot of you.

I'd actually quite like him to get into the guild proper, in an honorary role. It also would make it far more convenient for me to keep track of events and actually take part in a few more.

I understand if you want to keep racial purity (in a non-Nazi way), but please give the Moo a thought? <3

I approve of this.

And this way we can get one of the remaining Guild achieves :P

Might be difficult though once you are in. I already can people hear saying: "So much for Orc-only." and the like. Might hurt the reputation, but what do I know?

I still approve of the Moo.

I think we've had this topic before, openning the guild too moos? Not sure what it was, or if it's still open. But i don't really see any problem with it, neither have i really ever. As long as it's the closests releatives, aka trolls and taurens, i suppose.

I definitely think for all the work Jarilo's done with the tribe that he could be granted an honorary member status. I don't think we should be handing this out to every character who's not an orc and wants to join the tribe, just people who have worked with the tribe for a long time.

This has been a bit of returning dilemma as far as I recall, and I've always leaned on two sides of the same coin at regular interval. Back in my days, I've considered the option of opening ORB up to other races (mostly tauren and trolls, similar "tribal"-esque races) and opened up a dialogue with the members about it (as seen in this topic (http://orcsoftheredblade.com/forum/index.php?topic=2860.0) and the very close results that came out of it). Still, we never came to a conclusive decision because the dilemma of giving up orcish exclusivity at the behest of opening up to a new audience is something that's scared people off in the past. After all, knowing you're a pristine, orc-only racial guild can, no matter how silly one may find it, may be a point of prestige to some, considering we've never made any exceptions whatsoever. As seen in this news post (http://orcsoftheredblade.com/forum/index.php?page=30) from some time ago however, we've always been open to the possibility of outsiders joining us on our adventures at least.

In the end, I've had a tendency of leaning towards opening the guild up myself. If only by a very, very, VERY small margin. Orcish exclusivity is nice, but I've lived with it for eight years myself, so it doesn't really have much more secrets for me. That's just me though, and taking into account the personal experiences I've had with it since I feel I've milked pretty much all I could out of orc RP by now. I imagine that orcish character would still stay around in the tribe's spirit and the other races would have to take it for granted, but it is indeed still a price you have to pay if you want to adhere to the guild's core foundation. As such, I can fully respect it if even just a slightly smaller margin of people still think we should remain orc-only.

Edit: Should your request be rejected in the end, I do think there's an addon out there that allows you to look up calendar events from all characters on your account on the same server. So as long as you have another character in the guild, you'd be able to see the guild's own events on your moo-moo as well. I'd have to look the name up to be sure though.

The name of that addon is Altoholic. I use it myself too. :)

And to add to this subject.. Imo, I'd rather keep the guild orc-only. It's still something special that we have in my opinion, and the fact we manage to keep it running like this. Many guilds started out as race exclusive, but opened up because of more need for members.
It's something not seen often anymore, and I think that has it's own charms too and will draw in people -because- of that very fact.

Not saying I have anything against Jarilo, but I view it more in general. Because if we open up for one, others will want in too.

Sorry guys, I just had to do it. And so did Koz. Guess that does mean we're multiracial now!

I say we perform ancient ritual to appease our ancestor and the long dead spirit to guide us in this issue.

meaning, appease me. burn that incense for me. and throw a yolk at Sadok
