Title: Guild Chat and Cataclysm
Post by: Garashna on October 17, 2010, 12:12:21 AM
Hey all!

With the earth shaking a lot and the spirits being difficult and elements attacking innocent villagers, I realised that our guild chat is also a spirit/shaman/mysterious thing.

Is there anythin we can do with this in cataclysm? I myself was thinking that since it's a spirit thing, it could start breaking up in the upcoming weeks to cataclysm, reaching a dead point in the week or so before.

Sure, it'll make communication so much more difficult, but it'll be a challenge for all of us and I think it'll be a fun immersion of the upcoming expansion and the ongoing changes so far.

Also, people can use it to work on a solution together. Result: MUCH RP!

Post opinions below plox :)

Sounds pretty good to me, actually. With Cataclysm, a lot of orcs around the world might be scattered around the shattering world. The chaos would be ever so greater if they wouldn't be able to communicate for unknown reasons. I say go for it!

Been thinking some more, and I've sort of constructed a timeline or sorts.

October 25th until October 31st:
Every now, parts of words seem to vanish, making it sound like words get cut-out here and there. Separate letters vanish rather often. Letters can vanish every other sentence, words only rarely vanish entirely.

November 1st until November 7th:
Complete words get cut out now, people aren't able to finish sentances or they lack words here and there. Light interferance. Letters still get cut out here and there, but clarification is still possible.

November 8th until November 14th:
Sentances break up often, though a second try should be able to fill in further details to clear communication up. Long conversations will give minor headaches.

November 15th until November 21st:
Severe breaking up of sentances, key words faltering. No ability to repeat communication as too much tries will result into IC headaches.

November 22nd until November 28th:
Single vague words that are very quiet. Users will experience chaos in their heads and migraine-like effects when speaking to it.

November 29th  until Cataclysm release:
Complete gchat inactivity.

It's just an idea and the things work for both speakers and listeners. Feel free to do things your own way, and alter things where you find them most rewarding for the RP that goes on.

So yeah, just an idea. If we're going to do this, might as well put it in GMOTD or guild calendar as well.

I think this is a great idea! I was wondering about the timeline a little. I think that the shattering of the world, so to speak, will happen before the hit of cataclysm. I am not sure when, but it should be like the pre-events for wotlk? In that case, we should keep our eyes open for patch dates and perhaps adjust the timeline accordingly. [[SPOILER]] Like if DW crashes everything a week before the release of the expansion, we loose all communication a few days before that or something.

Do I .. make sense?

This would  be even more awesome if, when the Cataclysm hits, we set up some kind of search party across the changed regions in search for the scattered orcs (and still lacking good communication).

A. We'd get to see the new zones
B. We can role-play while doing it!

Morgy, you make complete and utter sense!
Gnash, I want to have your babies.

So.... for those who never read forums, is it a good idea for a high ranking orc to either GMOTD (or GMOTW (week)) this or put it on the calendar? I'd so love to do something with this :D

Gnash is getting special attention from Koz?! *jaelous face*

But searching parties is a good idea! But consider this, how many will be lost and have to be searched for? And who will be lost?

Since it has now been posted that the patch bringing the Shattering goes live the 23rd on US servers. Doing the math make's it live the 24th here.
So maybe we should speed the time up a bit as in the current time shedule there is a week we don't have planned?

And, I again point out that the Shattering most likely is happening on the 24th.

Well, I'm just stating.
As yesterday in the channel you were saying that the spirit link would fully die when the shattering came. So I'm informing you that the timeline you're playing with is sorta wrong.

But, if you've changed your mind since yesterday (And the start of this thread), don't mind me. ^^

Double posting, I know, but since it has now been confirmed that the Shattering will happen this week and that the shattering bascily is the Cataclysm even tho we don't get the expansion I am wondering:

What is the current timeline on this?
Will we follow the drawn up timeline, which now doesn't really make sense if the spirit connection dies five days after the world errupts and changes.
Or will be simply pull a new one and have the chat die on the 24th?

As it dying after Deathwing entering the world... sorta doesn't make any sense at all.
