Well it is here and!!!!
AOC that is.
The graphics are amazing. :o
Very much like LOTR with bells on.
The combat mechanics are good (well I think so any way) it is not a case of just spam the button you have to place your hit were there is less protection on your opponent.
But the story line ummm bit linear questing is a bit on the easy side as well.
However early days.
RP does not happen at the moment everybody running around getting used to the set up.
The servers seem to be real stable and for first day with people making characters etc; that is amazing.
Having said that do not know if I will stick with it past the 30 day trial.
Just seems to lack atmosphere for want of better word. :-\
30 days trial?!?!?! Is there one? omg! Iz must try!
I finally got round to buying it today. It confirmed my suspicions that I really need to upgrade my crappy pc. It runs WoW fine, struggled a bit with lotro and is now staggering like an 80 year old running the 100m trying to run aoc ::) I'll stick with it and start saving I think.
The game however, is great. As for lack of atmosphere, that may be down to the fact that you don't know many people yet Clawsie and the fantastic rp guilds and community of WoW is yet to develop.
Two questions for you Claws;
What server are you playing on?
What race are you playing?
Im curious about the trial also, not buying anything untill i tried first
You will have to buy the game for the 30 day trial much the same as WoW Nergul
Then if you wish to carry on you have to dig into your pockets.
The lack of atmosphere I think is like you say Akesha it has not been up for long enough yet but it will come in time.
And after stepping aside from WOW (for now) it is a bit of a difference not knowing others as you say Akesha.
At the moment I’m on Twilight which is meant to be a Euro culture PVP server.
(Good name what it means got no idea) ::) :D
Still testing the water as far as race and class.
Tried the Assassins first and got her to level 12 (Keah) started to take notice on others and there abilities.
So now trying a Guardian (Kern) now level 20 both are Aquilonian.
Also done a little demonolgist they seem to be the flavour of the month.
Lot of gankers about but if you can’t beat them join them.
Heading over to AoC for a little tester meself as soon as I get home to Manchester, but this doesn't mean I'm quitting WoW.
Joining my mates from the Dogs of War on Aqulionia I think, proabably playing a Cimmerian male of some sort, named Kaikanor if possible. Still to decide on class, oh the choices!
I planned to play it but unfortunately I am part of the "9k latency-lagspike sufferer community", meaning the game is technically impossible to play for me. I just hope it gets fixed at some point. The "lagspike treads" in the european forums are quite heaviely used ( 200 pages long in eng forum and 400 pages in german forum) so I suppose the problem is spread whide enough for funcom/responsible ISP to care about fixing it.
My characters are all on Auillonia, but I don't know yet which class I am going to play or the names of my final characters. I just couldn't do much class testing yet with a 15+ second lagspike every 30 seconds (you basically die because of lag every second or third fight)
I am also considering to stop online gaming alltogether. Since I couldn't log into wow for more then a month my addiction for this game is pretty much broken although I can play it again right now my last logins were just *shrug* not as much fun as I remember playing wow used to be. And with AoC being unplayable my motivation for playing onlinegames is pretty low at the moment. I might as well just continue writing my book, "Word" never has any lag, does not require server maintenance and the login process is pretty fast. I also never need to update addons, since the original UI is decent :)
Don't even have a comp that can run AoC right now, something that should hopefully be fixed in a month or so. Going to try AoC for sure, no interested in playing 2 MMRPG's, so I am going to choose either. From what I read right now, I think AoC is probably a very nice game, but at the same time I don't think it will be better then WoW. In which case I can start playing WoW with highest graphic settings on the new comp.
I might buy it. or I will just wait a couple of months until there is a free 3-day trial. Or I just buy WaR. Or both.
It's pretty certain that there will be a free trial in the not so distant future - it will probably have to in order to keep up with wow. I think many people are reluctant to try out a game with a monthly subscription without having tried it first.
Hope to try it out soon; looks like an interesting game. I really like the look of the environments, in particular. But if I get to try it and it turns out that I like it, I probably wont have time to play it anyway :(
Having played aoc for a couple of days now, I have come to two conclusions;
1. I need a new computer
2. It is a very different game from WoW. Veteran WoW players will either love it or hate it. I do not think aoc will cause everybody to dessert WoW. Instead it provides a real alternative, a game which is not just WoW with fancier graphics. Those people who think WoW is the best game ever, will almost certainly not like aoc at all. In fact they will probably find it quite dull, complain that you can only play a human and then go back to WoW. On the otherhand, those people who have never really liked WoW because they find it silly and cartoony, may well love aoc's sense of realism and gritty background.
Yay, I like it! Got a lvl 13 necromancer on hyboria (or something like that) It is an RP server..
Very good game! Like the combat system alot

?
If you mean where is the 30 day trial you sign up and do not pay any subs for the first 30 days.
(Just like WOW)
Then if you like it you keep playing and you get charged.
(Just like WOW)
im trying to sign up, by making a account for Funcom, but i need to selekt payment method right away, and i cannot find like a key for the 30day trial
It is not a trial like in WoW where you don't have to select any payment method. It's more like opening a fully oparable account with the first 30 days free. So you need to select a payment method for what happens after your 30 days. But you won't get charged until your 30 days are over, no matter what payment method you select. You should however select a working one. When I signed up they checked my credit card, although they did not charge it. So i suppose it won't work when you just enter some bogus payment method.
And I play it too right now. I just rented a VPN tunnel for one month to connect to the "mainland" without going over the crappy internet line of my irish provider and can play without latency problems now. I'm on the same server like Lanii I suppose, the only RP-PvE server with the strange name ( "Hykkeria" or something like that ).
Ah, thats where i got stuck, i thought i had to check something so they would know i was playing on the 30day trial, thanks Gorek!
Think I'll stick to WoW. Personally, I've always like WoW lore than Conan, and Wow just seemsmore...friendly? before WoW I was never on the internet, and i think i;ve got too many fond memories of WoW to gove up playing... like on my first day i met a troll called aubergine and we /danced. Happy days.

Go get your hot, sweaty mang sex elsewhere. /shoo
Gorek! Whats your name in there?
Hopping around on Aqulonia on Kaikanor currently and possibly Kulon. However, I'm having horrible horrible frame rate issues - something around 2-5fps even when standing still with most stuff on low. And I have 2gig of ram on the home PC. Not sure what's up, any suggestions.
Bear shaman, RAWR!

Either "Caelen" (bear shaman) or "Demar" (demonologist), both pretty lowlevel though, don't have much time because of RL-work and splitting it between two chars because I can't decide which one I like more doesn't help either :)

Graphic card?
Some nVIDIA thing, not sure what it is but I can find ou once I get home. If that's the prblem, I'll buy a replacement one for the computer - it's my mum's one but I doubt she'll object as long as I pay for it!

It could be I think the minimum is 6600 with a 7800 as the recommended card speed.
But remember it all to do with connection speed, so it may be down to your IPS
No dout some body can confirm this or add to it.
Connection speed doesn't have anything to do with your fps - sounds like a hardware problem.
Run this: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest
It's a web application that will compare your rig to the hardware requirements of the game.
Ah, great! Thanks Hakon, will run this when I get home and see what is to be done. I doubt there will be any trouble with me upgrading to PC as long as I pay for it myself.
Thanks for the link Hakon, apparently the video card isn't quite up to scratch, well said Claws! Going to sort out getting a new, better one, when I get back.
