This is me testing the shoutbox, because shouting is a great stress relief and it would be a shame if it doesn't work.

Gashuk

If someone is genuinely mentally ill and requires medicine to balance out the chemicals in their brain; I would never stand between them and the medicine that allows them to socially function, if their depression or other mental illness is that crippling that they require them to do so.

I do however strongly believe that mental illness is best overcome by positive reinforcement and changes to someone's lifestyle rather than justifying it by medical diagnosis, obtaining a prescription to anti-depressants and resolving to the idea that your life simply sucks and continuing to live your life in the same manner as when you first became depressed. If you don't change, nothing else will and if you lack the motivation to do so, by all means go to therapy, but the bottom line is you are your own biggest enemy and the only person who can change your life for certain is you.

I get exactly where you're coming from. Positive reinforcement is important.
But I can also say, from experience, that it can also be destructive. As often people will just try to talk themselves up and never get help they actually need.
Or they'll see other people who seem to have the same issues (but often don't) manage to get on without help And feel worse because they can't. And that'll become a negative feedback loop.

Which is why I'm telling you that you miss the issues with "depression".
Otherwise lifestyle change is one of  the primary treatments against depression.

I understand what you're saying and you make good points. I can see how someone in a negative feedback loop would struggle to get out of it but I stand by my comments.

Typical case of: you'll never know for sure how it feels or how it is until you've had it yourself. You can try to feel along with someone or imagine how another person can feel, but it will never be the same. I suffer from panic attacks. People tell me: Just don't worry so much then and let it go, stop thinking about it.
Well. I can't. xD And some people don't understand that. I think the same goes for something like depressions or even worse for example having to deal with an illness like cancer, you'll never fully know how it feels or understand how some people manage or not manage to deal with it until you encounter it yourself.

And now I think we should stop talking about depression.

Let's talk about more positive things, like the 3 migraine I had today.
My head is still pounding after eating painkillers but it seems to be going away, hopefully it will keep up as I fall asleep.

Hell yeah! So in the last two days, I have gone from owning one cat, to three, to two and back down to one. :(

I already take anti depressive medication just to note that down. Change isn't something you just 'do' and in my case it's something you don't do at all; Not because you don't want to, you really do in fact, but because you simply can't. You may go ahead and throw the "You can do anything as long as you really want to" at me, but that is in reality not the case.
